The Meredith Vieira Show is an American talk show hosted by Meredith Vieira and produced by NBCUniversal Television Distribution.[2] It premiered on September 8, 2014, and is airing in syndication.[2] The second season premiered on September 8, 2015.
On January 5, 2016, NBCUniversal announced that it canceled The Meredith Vieira Show after two seasons because of low ratings and downgrades from local stations.
Production
In May 2013, after Vieira departed Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, it was reported that a talk show pilot was being filmed.[3] By July of the same year, NBCUniversal Television Distribution announced that it had ordered The Meredith Vieira Show to series with a fall 2014 premiere.[4]
In May 2014, it was announced that Everett Bradley and Jon Harris had joined the series. Bradley will serve as show's band leader with Harris as an announcer.[5] It was also noted that The Meredith Vieira Show has been sold to local stations in 98% of the United States.[2] On October 31, 2014, NBCUniversal Television Distribution announced it picked up The Meredith Vieira Show for an early second season renewal.[6]
The show originates from Studio 6-A at NBC's Rockefeller Center headquarters, previously the home to the network's Late Night franchise under David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, and briefly Jimmy Fallon, as well as syndicated program The Dr. Oz Show.[7]
On January 5, 2016, NBCUniversal announced that it was not renewing the show, citing a ratings decline, downgrades from local stations, and Vieira's work schedule. Vieira noted in a statement, "I am so sorry to see our show come to an end after this season, but I am also incredibly proud of the work our staff has done and forever grateful to our supportive viewers," and added, "We promise to spend our final weeks producing the best broadcast we know how. And have a blast doing so!"[8]
