A mass shooting took place on November 7, 2018 in Thousand Oaks, California, at the Borderline Bar and Grill, a country-western dance club.[2][3][4]

There were more than 200 patrons in the club when the attack began[1] at around 11:20pm.[5] There was a single assailant, who fired approximately 30 shots[2] and threw smoke bombs.[5] Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents, personnel from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and multiple police departments deployed to the scene.[6][2] The initial search found one handgun and no rifles at the scene.[7]

Twelve people were killed, including a police officer, while ten others are injured. In addition, the attacker was found dead inside the bar.[8]

Events

The shooting happened inside Borderline Bar & Grill at 99 Rolling Oaks Drive in Thousand Oaks, California. The bar was hosting a regularly scheduled calendar event The College Country Night for college students.[9] It is possible that several hundred young people were inside at the time of the massacre. The county sheriff's office said that at least 30 shots had been fired. A witness claimed that around 11:30 p.m., someone ran into the bar and started shooting using a semi-automatic pistol,[10] and also threw some sort of smoke bombs into the crowd.

Victims

The victims of the attack were 11 college students and Ron Helus, a sheriff's sergeant.[11][12]
