Template:Spanish name 2 Pedro Tomás Reñones Grego (born 9 August 1960 in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia), usually called Tomás, is a retired Spanish footballer, who played as a right defender.
He was best known for his spell at Atlético de Madrid, for which he played 12 professional seasons, also being a regular for Spain for a number of years.
Club career
After one season with hometown's SD Compostela, Tomás joined Atlético Madrid in 1982, first playing with its B side. In 1984–85, he made his first division debuts, and never again lost his starting XI berth, going on to amass nearly 500 overall appearances for the club.
On May 25, 1996, Tomás took the field in the 80th minute of his final game, a home fixture against Albacete Balompié, to a rapturous ovation. Although he played in only 12 matches in the campaign, he aided the colchoneros to an historic double, and retired altogether in 1998, after two stints in the lower leagues.
International career
Tomás earned 19 caps for the Spanish national team, and was selected for the 1986 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 1988 (both as a starter, as he appeared in seven complete matches - out of eight - combined).
His debut came on November 20, 1985, in a 0-0 friendly with Austria, in Zaragoza.
