The King James Version translation of Acts 12:4 incorrectly translates "πάσχα" as Easter instead of "passover". According to the English Church historian St. Bede in his Reckoning of Time, "Easter" derives from a pagan spring festival in honour of Eastra or Ostara, a Teutonic goddess. The term "Easter" is not Orthodox and never has been. In Latin and Greek, the Christian celebration was, and still is, called Pascha. undo

The lenten fast excludes eggs, cheese, and dairy, so vegan is the more appropriate description of an Orthodox Lenten fast. Vegetarian is incorrect. undo Tags: Mobile edit Mobile web edit
