UFC Undisputed 2010 is a mixed martial arts video game featuring Ultimate Fighting Championship properties and fighters developed by Yuke's and published by THQ. It is scheduled for release on May 25, 2010, for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and for the first time PlayStation Portable. It is the second game to be released under THQ's 2007 agreement with the UFC and it is a sequel to the successful UFC 2009 Undisputed. A teaser trailer of the game was shown on December 12, 2009 at the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards, where UFC 2009 Undisputed was named the Best Individual Sports Game, showing a first look at The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights contestant Kimbo Slice.

On February 23rd, video game retailer GameStop announced that James McSweeney was one of four exclusive pre-order bonus unlockable fighters. On March 2nd, Marcus Jones was unveiled as the second fighter included in the pre-order. On March 9th, Brendan Schaub was announced as the third bonus fighter. On March 16th, Roy Nelson was announced as the fourth bonus fighter.[2]. The full roster is expected to be finalized and revealed between March 15 and April 10.

Gameplay Changes

In an interview with ESPN, Neven Dravinski (producer of UFC 2009/2010 Undisputed) said that they made so many serious upgrades to the game that he can not play UFC 2009 Undisputed because the gameplay is so poor compared to UFC Undisputed 2010[3]

Like its predecessor, the game will feature a realistic mixed martial arts simulator with the presence of known UFC personalities. Kimbo Slice, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Junior dos Santos, Dan Hardy, Shane Carwin, Clay Guida, Frank Trigg, Paulo Thiago, and Renzo Gracie are just some of the newly added fighters, UFC Undisputed 2010 will also include multiple changes [4] from the previous version, including:

  • Improved controls, including a redesign of clinch and ground grappling.
  • Parameters of escaping submissions, to represent "how an actual struggle submission would go down" as well as new submissions, including inverted submissions.
  • Usage of cage walls
  • Fighter customization, so that fighters no longer have set moves according to fight style and instead can choose from about 200 different moves.
  • Introduction of southpaw stance
  • Greater control over the placement of tattoos or sponsorship logos
  • Added MMA brands for clothing as well as the introduction of post-fight attire.
  • Improved career mode with dynamic commentary based on title history or training partners. AI also adjusts fight style to take advantage of the player's weaknesses.
  • Karate, Greco-Roman wrestling and Sambo fighting styles introduced.
  • Online fighting camps
  • New modes including a "Title (and Defense) Mode" as well as "Tournament Mode" and a changed "Classic Fights" Mode.
  • Signature moves tied to a fighter.
  • 15 new submissions, 20 new strikes, and 2 new different types of clinches have been added.
  • Will be able to carry over old CAF from UFC undisputed 2009 and bring him into UFC undisputed 2010
  • The new "cage is alive" mode will now be featured in the game.
  • The ability to attempt one submission, and change into another during the attempt.
  • Classic Fights are now called Ultimate Fights with changes being fight categories and multiple challenges for each fight. Including "Rewriting History".
  • Fighters can now age in career mode causing fighters to retire.
  • You don't lose energy when your opponent is rocked.[5]
  • Fights can end in TKO due to injury or cuts.[6]
  • Cutscenes to choose rivalries.
  • Voices for fighters.
  • Career mode starts off with you in World Fighting Alliance.
  • Weight class switching in career mode.[7]

Three legendary fighters will be added as PS3 exclusives. These three fighters are Royce Gracie, Jens Pulver, and Dan Severn. Along with the three exclusive fighters will be five exclusive ultimate fights with each of those being added to a special blu-ray disc that will come with the Playstation disc. The 5 ultimate fights are:

EA Sports controversy

UFC president Dana White has declared himself "at war" with EA over the development of the EA Sports MMA video game. White assumed that he initially wanted EA to develop UFC 2009 Undisputed and remarks "EA Sports told us, 'You're not a real sport. We wouldn't touch this thing. We want nothing to do with this.'" "We put our asses on the line, THQ and the UFC, to make a video-game deal in the worst economy in the world," White told reporters recently. "We go out there and do this thing, and it's successful, and now [expletive] EA Sports wants to do a video game.[9]

White warned the fighters who intend to be included in the upcoming EA Sports MMA game release, claiming that "If you do business with EA, you won't be in the UFC". Former UFC heavyweight champions Tim Sylvia[10] and Andrei Arlovski, as well as still under contract Frank Trigg (who has now been released from his UFC Contract following his loss to Matt Serra) [11] and Vladimir Matyushenko[12] confirmed their presence in the EA Sports MMA video game. Fan favorite Randy Couture was under contract with UFC before agreeing to be a part of EA Sports MMA, but is able to take part in the game due to never signing over his likeness to the UFC for use in video games.[13]
