The Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP)is a political party in Ethiopia. At the last legislative elections, 15 May 2005, the party was part of the Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD), that won 109 out of 527 seats in the Council of People's Representatives. However, in October 2005 the party central committee voted to leave the coalition. Ato Lidetu Ayalew is the president of the party and Wezero Sophia Yilma the vice president.[1]

Lidetu has been a victim of character assassination and defamation following the 2005 elections by the former CUD leaders. However the election campaign in 2010 reveled that fact that Lidetu and his party were not behind the unsuccessful unity . [2]
