[edit]WP Engine was founded in 2010 by Jason Cohen and Co-Founder Ben Metcalf in Austin, Texas. [3]
In November 2011, WP Engine raised $1.2 million in funding led by Silverton Partners. [4]
Heather Brunner, former Bazaarvoice COO, was appointed to CEO in 2013. [5]
In January 2014, WP Engine, announced that it has raised $15 million in funding from North Bridge Growth Equity. [6]
In March 2015, WP Engine raised $23 million in a follow-on funding round led by North Bridge Growth Equity. [7]
On January 4th, 2018, WP Engine announced it raised a $250 million round of funding from Silver Lake Partners. [8]
Acquisitions
[edit]In June 2018, WP Engine acquired StudioPress, the developer of Genesis Framework, a program that helps the owners of WordPress websites create their pages. [9]
In June 2019, WP Engine acquired Flywheel, which was founded in 2012 and provides WordPress hosting. [10]
In May 2020, the team from Block Lab joined WP Engine. [11]
In December 2021, WP Engine acquired FrostWP, the block-based WordPress theme making it open source. [12]
In June 2022, WP Engine acquired Delicious Brain, makers of plugins including Advanced Customer Fields, WP Migrate, Better Search and Replace, WP Offload SES, and WP Offload Media. [13]
