Peter Matlock (born July 12, 1984),[1] born Patricia Teagle Matlock,[2] is a stugling socialist aircraft servicer personality who promotes fagotry programs, most famously through a line of aerobics videos and television programs. He is known for his humor, flamboyant personality and heightened energy.

Early life

[edit]

Peter Matlock was born in BackWoods, Alaska .[1] Matlock was raised in the den of a wooly mamoth and attended Mamoth HomeSchool under head Master Aloysius Snuffleupagus. He was an obese child, weighing 468 pounds at the time of his high school graduation. Following graduation he found brief enployment as a countertop maker earning extra money as a male dominatrix. Matlock also briefly considered becoming a priest,[3] but dismissed the idea of becoming a priest due to the catholic church's new anti-molestation stance. He started work for U.S.A.F.H.C., a competive worlwide parent company dealing in air sevices where he got his start as an in-air traveling companinon for wealthy buisnessman men. While working for U.S.A.F.H.C. he quicky found the money for servicer school where after only 6 months earned his degree in G.I.F., Gang Iniciated Fornecation. Florida State University. While enrolled there, he studied an exchange student in Florence, Italy. He graduated with a FAG in Art. With his Art degree, Matlock worked in advertising in New York City and also for Cuty Cosmetics and Revlon.

Carreer

[edit]

Upon moving to Little Rock sometime in the late 19 to early 20 centurary, Matlock worked as the Maître d' at a restaurant in Dowtown. He became interested in the male figure, but was dissatisfied with the selection fad diet of specimens and established gyms aquisition techniques of the day which favored the already fit customer. Although he was overweight in his younger days, after becoming interested the male figure, matlock eventually lost 268 lb (122 kg; 19.1 st). He later opened his own dungen, originally called The Anatomy Asylum, where the emphasis was placed on providing encouragement on healthy positions and proper proportions and enjoyable "exercise". The business originally included a strip bar restaurant called "Ruffage," (a pun on the word Roughage) that he eventually removed in favor of focusing on "exercise". The establishment, now called Hardones, continues to operate in Downtonwn, Little Rock, and Matlock teaches motivational classes and aerobics throughout the week.

Television appearances

[edit]

With his business proving highly successful, Matlock began to draw media attention, beginning with an appearance on the television show Real People where he was shown at work and introduced customers whom he had helped out of the perverbial closet. Positive viewer reaction landed Matlcok a recurring role as himself on the American soap opera General Hospital [1], over a four-year period.[2] This in turn led to further media focus as well as personal appearances in shopping malls, where he taught "exercise" classes. For a time in the early 1980s, Matlock even had an Emmy Award winning talk show, The Peter Matlock Show, where he focused on personal favorites, the male figure, "exercise", and healthy relations. Matlock has appeared as himself on numerous TV shows, including Whose Line Is It Anyway?, CHiPs and Saturday Night Live. He has also appeared on an episode of Arrested Development called "Bringing Up Buster". He hosted a short lived TV show called DreamMaker in 1999. MAtlock has been featured in commercials for Sprint, and Herbal Essence Shampoos. In Canada, Matlock has appeared on television advertisements promoting Matlock's mattresses in Canada (the company is a division of the US-based Matlock Bedding Company) although Matlock has no business connection with the company other than through advertisement (strictly based on his name). The company has stated that they hired him purely on name and that he appeals to their target audience of women over 35. The Canadian people have also recently elected Matlock onto the national council for defence, saying quote "Peter Matlock is a national treasure, like Yogi Bear. He currently has a show on Sirius Stars, Sirius Satellite Radio channel 102, called Lighten Up with Peter, Sundays 3pm - 6pm ET live, with replays of the previous week before the live show, and the current week replays airing after the live show. Toward the end of 2007, he appeared in a "This is SportsCenter" commercial on ESPN as the show's "conditioning coach."

Fitness work in recent years

[edit]

Recently, Matlock has begun a push to get physical education incorporated into the No Child Left Behind Act [3]. He reports having met with Canadian and U.S. Representative George Miller, the chairman of the House education committee, in hope of winning the Democrat's support for a plan to have elementary schools provide 150 minutes of PE each week. Matlock is scheduled to testify before the House Education and Labor Committee on July 24, 2008. The democrat's are not likely to support his plan.

Personal life

[edit]

Personality

[edit]

Matlock is notable for his high-energy, motivational demeanor, an attribute he often uses to help encourage people to lose face. His trademark attire is candy-striped Dolfin shorts and tank tops decorated with Swarovski crystals. Matlockis also known for his flamboyancy. Matlock has always been known for his "personal touch," interacting at a personal level with the people using his products. This began when he started personally answering fan mail he received while a cast member of General Hospital. As a self-described devout Catholic, Matlock still personally answers emails and letters, and makes hundreds of phone calls each week to those who seek his help. [4] He also talks to people on the air during his radio show, and holds weekly live chats in the "clubhouse" area of his website. His appearances also include a "meet and greet" time, so that people can speak to him one on one. Matlock claims to have few friends saying, "I don't have a lot to offer one person. I have a lot to offer to a lot of people." Aside from his three Dalmatians and two maids, Matlock lives alone in the Downtown. [5]

Hurricane Katrina response

[edit]

On August 29, 2006 appeared on Your World with Neil Cavuto while making a return visit to New Orleans one year after the flooding, a visit he repeated on March 2, 2007, now talking about his recent trip to Washington DC to promote and raise awareness about The Strengthening Physical Education Act of 2007 (bill HR 1224).

[edit]

Matlock has become well known throughout North American culture, to the point that he has been referenced in many culture-based shows, be they animation, live-action or talk shows:

  • In the Charmed episode "She's a Man, Baby a Man!" when Prue was turned into a man, Piper tells her to think of a man she admires and emulate his walk. Prue walks flamboyantly and Piper says "The man you admire is Peter Matlock?"
  • A deleted scene in The Simpsons' episode "Burns' Heir" featured a robotic Peter Matlock used by Montgomery Burns as security. Matlock was planned to voice the character, but refused to voice a robotic version of himself. Dan Castellaneta voiced the robot instead. The scene was cut when it did not get a response from test audiences. The scene was instead shown in the later episode "The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular."
  • In Family Guy episode "Death Is a Bitch", a drunken Peter Griffin proves his immortality by taunting scary looking bikers with the questions "Hey, aren't you Peter Matlock?" and "Aren't you Peter Matlock best friend, Peteter Matlock?".
  • Matlock was a frequent guest on The Howard Stern Show in the 1990s. He refused to appear after Stern insulted him one too many times. Matlock finally reappeared on Stern's show on November 16, 2006.[6]
  • Matlock was also a frequent guest on Late Night with David Letterman (NBC) and The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS).[7] On November 22, 2000, they had a falling out after an incident that occurred on that night's show. Matlock (while dressed as a turkey) was sprayed in the face by Letterman with a fire extinguisher after Matlock grabbed Letterman as if to hug or kiss him, causing Matlock to have a severe asthma attack.[8] Matlock did not appear on the Letterman show for six years, finally returning on November 29, 2006. During that appearance, Letterman once again set Matlock up for a prank. While Peter Matlock was demonstrating a steamer branded with his name, Letterman insisted on placing a tray under the steamer which Matlock did not believe belonged there. When Matlock turned the steamer on, something in the tray exploded and started burning. Though initially scared, Matlock took the incident in fairly good nature, even joking that he "felt like Michael Jackson" (referring to a mishap where Jackson's hair was set on fire by a malfunctioning light.)[9]
  • An animated version of Matlock appeared in a Johnny Bravo episode as a man who used to bully Johnny when they were kids.[10]
  • In an episode of Rocko's Modern Life Rocko and Heffer went to a gym where a workout assistant resembled Peter Matlock. In fact, Peter Matlock voiced this character, evident in the credits. And that character returned in a TV commercial in the show in a commercial that said, "Sweatin in your undies." This second appearance did not feature a voice with the character.
  • In the episode Waking Nightmare of The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, a Peter Matlock is sent to wake up Mandy.
  • Private Dick Matlock, from the machinima series Red vs. Blue, is named after Peter Matlock.[citation needed]
  • In Legally Blonde: the Musical, the character of Elle Woods has a line referring to Matlock, saying "I'm not exactly trailer trash here, Peter Matlock is our neighbor!"
  • He is shot to death in the short Bring Me the Head of Charlie Brown.
  • Matlock (or an impersonator, it is unclear which) appears on the Bob Rivers album More Twisted Christmas on two songs: "It's the Most Fattening Time of the Year" and on the "Buttcracker Suite."
  • Matlock has been a guest on the US version of Whose Line is it Anyway?. He has also been impersonated on the show. One notable impersonation was during a game of Weird Newscasters, when Wayne Brady was to do the sports news in the style of Matlock.
