Chløë Black (singer)[edit]

Chloe Leighton, known as Chløë Black is an Australian/French singer, songwriter, pianist born on the 12th of January in 1989 in Sydney, Australia. She writes songs in both languages.

Biography[edit]

Youth[edit]

Born from a French mother and an Australian father : she studied Arts at the Australian University. She watched her father play jazz piano and came to idolize greats like Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington and Etta James. Her childhood was spent in three different continents, which is why she considers herself to have many homes. Her current home being Los Angeles.[1]
. She found herself waitressing in a strip club when she was 18.

Career[edit]

Writing songs alone, she is recognized with time. In 2010, Chloe signs to Beluga Heights / Warner Brothers, a label formed by producer J.R Rotem.[2]. She is now without label and is independent. In October 2015, she tours with the singer Lauren Aquilina in order to provide the first part of shows for 5 dates in England.[3]

Private life[edit]

The move to LA when she was 18 led to a chance encounter with Marilyn Manson and a romantic relationship ensued for a few months. She moved to London for a few years to record her album. She currently lives in Los Angeles since June 2017 because she was missing California. She has one little sister Sofi.

Discography[edit]

Her music is to be labelled as goth’n’ soul/ pop. She is often compared to Lana Del Rey.

EP[edit]

2015: by releasing the single Breaking Bad, she continued with her first single called Club 27 followed with a video clip. Then, her first EP was published on the 24th of April 2015 and is available on iTunes. The EP is composed of 3 songs.[4]

Other recordings[edit]

In 2009, Chloe published several demos before being known on her personal Myspace account. Some of them are still available here[5]. On October the 15th 2016, Chloe released Wild At Heart, new single and clip (by the director Nadia Lee), a small wink to David Lynch's movie[6]. On April 6th 2016, Chloe released a new single produced by Phil Cook and Jim Elliot entitled Groupie[7]. This new electro pop song is considered as a feminist anthem and pays tribute to the 70's groupies such as Pamela Des Barres and Cynthia Plaster Caster. On August 16th 2016, Chloe uploads online a new single, Death Proof illustrated in photographs by Nadia Lee and inspired by the movie of Tarantino dating from 2007 and making ode to the hedonism and savagery of the youth. She sang this new title for the first time on August 19, 2016 in Los Angeles.[8]. She then released on October 24th 2017 her new single Waterbed[9]. Then in 2018, for the Day of the Woman (March 8), she released the new single Good Times via V Magazine.[10]

Duos and participations[edit]

In 2010, she appeared on TV for a show. She was part of the choir. In 2017, while returning to London for a few days in June 2017, she was able to collaborate with the French artist fhin to lend her voice. The title Irreversible[11] was released on September 1st, 2017.
