List of viral videos
[edit]- 5 Minute-Girl - A "5 Minute-Girl" refers to the viral video showing a female driver (whose face has blurred out) has a lengthy argument with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) enforcers over the 5-minute rule for the parking violations occurred on August 2018.[1] Few days later, the MMDA issued a complaint against the woman. The woman later apologized to the MMDA for the incident.[1][2]
- Ateneo bullying incident – A video showing a student bullied another student inside the restroom of Junior High School Campus in Ateneo de Manila University.[3][4] The incident sparked with shock and outrage on social media, as well as the condemnation from the local celebrities and politicians.[5][6]
- "Bikoy" videos - Since April 3, 2019, a series of videos, known as "Bikoy" videos, was uploaded on YouTube by the account named "Ang Totoong Narco-list", accusing Paolo Duterte, son of incumbent Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, for "receiving money from a crime syndicate and using the brother of his brother-in-law as a dummy for the transactions."[7] The videos have since been deleted.
- Rodrigo Duterte rape remarks on Australian missionary – During the 2016 presidential election campaign, then-Davao City Mayor and now-President Rodrigo Duterte made the remarks about a rape incident during a campaign event about a hostage-taking incident in Davao City which occurred in 1989.[8] The event was captured on video and has become the viral video,[9] and it was the subject of heavy condemnation from other presidential rivalries,[10] and militant groups.[11]
- Thriller by the CPDRC Dancing Inmates – A recreation of Michael Jackson's hit performed by prisoners at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) in the Philippines.[12] In January 2010, it was among the ten most popular videos on YouTube with over 20 million hits.[13]
- Tagapagligtas ng Pilipinas — The incident of road rage involved between the taxi driver and the man named Karl Kaw, who identified himself as a "soldier" and the "tagapagligtas ng Pilipinas" (transl. "Savior of the Philippines) on October 4, 2019.[14]

[edit]- Amalayer – Amalayer is the viral video occurred on November 2012 when a woman had an argument with a female security guard of Manila Light Rail Transit System (LRT) following the former's failure of putting the bag in the baggage screening for security check. In the video, the woman is heard shouting "I'm a liar" to the woman, deriving the word into "Amalayer" based on her pronunciation.[15][16] Since then, the "Amalayer" has become the subject by the artists on sketch comedy aired in the country.[citation needed]
- Hello Garci scandal – The "Hello Garci" scandal refers to the political scandal which involves then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Commission on Elections (COMELEC) commissioner Virgilio Garcillano. The scandal broke out in June 2005 when audio recordings of Arroyo and Garcillano allegedly talking about the rigging of the 2004 national election results, were released to the public.[17] Since then, the clip of "Hello Garci" greeting quickly became one of the most downloaded ring tones in the world.[18]
- Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie Dance Challenge – This dance challenge became the online sensational by the ordinary people on 2012.[citation needed]
- Math Dance Challenge – The Math Dance Challenge started on mid-2019.
- Pabebe wave – Pabebe wave is a term coined by the Philippine media to describe a gesture where a person imitates the waving movement done by beauty contestants in the Miss Universe pageant. It was popularized by AlDub in the "Juan For All, All for Juan" segment of the Philippine noontime show Eat Bulaga! A deviation from a beauty-queen wave gesture, it was exchanged between Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza after its initiation by the latter's character, Yaya Dub. Now popular among Filipinos, it also caught the attention of the world through several media platforms.[19][20] The gesture is similar to an earlier British gesture – the royal wave, used to mock the waving of the royal family.
- Trumpets Challenge – The "Trumpets Challenge" started in June 2016 when local celebrities dancing to the song "Trumpets" by Spanish DJ Sak Noel.[21][22][23][24][25]
