Icons

[edit]

Sorry for the delay, I read the email, and then forgot to respond. You can find plenty of icons free to use at commons:Category:Icons and commons:Category:Icons themes. All of my icons were pulled from commons:Category:Exquisite icons.Hope that helps!--Vox Rationis (Talk | contribs) 03:49, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Lake Forest, CA redirect

[edit]

I was the one who created the Category and, since I'm new to all this, I made the mistake of using the abbreviation "CA" instead of spelling it out. I see it's been nominated for a change. Who does the change and how is it done? Since I made the mistake, can't I simply correct it? If so, how do I do so? Thanks for your help. CarverM (talk) 03:27, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Hi Carver, renaming a category is (for good or bad) much more difficult than renaming an article. Basically, what will happen is that a new category will get made at the new name, the old category will be deleted, and all of the pages in the original category will be recategorized into the new one. Since deletion is involved, this process has to performed by an administrator, and since there can be a very large number of pages to recategorize, they will usually be assisted by a bot. So, you don't have to do anything, other than participate in the discussion, as I see you have already done. In a few days, the discussion will be closed, and then, within a day or so you should notice the category "magically" change name. When you create a new category, it is a good idea to look at what similar categories already exist (if any) and model yours off them. But don't worry about it too much--we've all created categories that haven't worked out, and there are a fair number of people who keep an eye on categorization, and make sure things get to where they ought to be eventually. Happy editing! LeSnail (talk) 04:38, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Just wanted to let you know that using "I know this personally" isn't usually a good reason for adding or removing content from articles. I agree with the deletion, BTW; it appears that the person who added it was trying to say inject uncited commentary about Walter Rauschenbusch in a few different articles. Pairadox (talk) 03:23, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I really appreciate your help and guidance. I'm trying to clean up the sections on Saddleback Church (I'm working on a whole new article in my Workbook.), The Purpose Driven Church, and The Purpose Driven Life. I don't have the energy to work on Rick Warren yet. :) If you wouldn't mind, could I have you look at the pieces once I finish them but before I post them so I'm not doing something I shouldn't? CarverM (talk) 04:21, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Sure; can you provide a link? User:CarverM/Sandbox doesn't seem to be it. You can easily see what pages mention Saddleback Church by going to the article and clicking on the "What links here" button in the toolbox (in the column to the left, under the search box). That should show everything, including talk pages and the like. Pairadox (talk) 04:33, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
it's User:CarverM/Workshop but I really haven't even started. I'll let you know when I'm done. I'm traveling quite a bit and my time to reflect, think and write has been spare lately. Again, thanks.
Drop me a note on my talk page when you want me to review it. Regarding this section, I suggest you read the comments here. You need to show that Saddleback believes these things (and their interpretation of them), not just reference the biblical passages upon which they are based. Every denomination has differences in theology, and most feel that they're based on the Bible, so it's incumbent on you to show the correlation. Pairadox (talk) 05:55, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Comments on PDC book

[edit]

Comments also left at the workshop talk page, but that may be a bit off the beaten path
Re: this draft; A good very good beginning; neutral language, no discernable POV, a mention of it's influence and impact. Find those survey results, maybe include page numbers for the quotes from it, move the "Saddleback Story" to an external link, and this should be fine. Pairadox (talk) 07:04, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Oh, and you may want to look at WP:CITE and WP:CIT for tips and templates for citations. As usual, feel free to ask if you need help. Pairadox (talk) 07:16, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Reviews of the book to back up some of the claims ("The author emphasizes a people-building process") would also strengthen the article. If you haven't already, check out Wikipedia:Notability (books). (Sorry for the multiple posts. I'm kinda doing stream-of-consciousness here.) Pairadox (talk) 07:21, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Hello CarverM. I happened to notice you were working on a PDC article. It does not sound very neutral to me yet. For ideas on how to write about religious topics, it might be worth looking at the list of our Featured Articles on religious topics. Also, it might be helpful to include comments from newspaper reviews of the book. EdJohnston (talk) 04:00, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
CarverM, thanks for your message. Which article am I to look at specifically? EdJohnston (talk) 04:13, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Your WP:AIV

[edit]

Thanks for fighting vandalism and reporting it to WP:AIV. However, I declined your report on 24.118.98.121. Generally speaking, we only block after the user has vandalized multiple times. In the case of 24.118.98.121, the user had only edited once and after being warned seemed to stop. As it says on AIV, "The vandal must be active now, and have vandalised after sufficient recent warnings to stop." Seeing as he wasn't, I did not make the block. Thank you for helping out, though, and happy editing. SorryGuy  Talk  02:08, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
