Peter Machado (born 26 May 1954) is an Indian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church, and is the Archbishop Designate of the Archdiocese of Bangalore.

Most Rev. Peter Machado, is the son of late Aveline and the late Anthony Machado. He hails from the coastal town of Honnavar in Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka. Born on May 26, 1954 in his native town, he joined St. Michael's Seminary, Belgavi, before completing his matriculation. He studied his primary school education at Holy Rosary Convent School in Honnavar and continued his high school studies at St. Paul's High School in Belgaum. He was later sent to Papal Seminary in Pune for philosophical and theological studies. He holds a commerce degree from Pune University.

He was ordained a priest on Dec. 8, 1978, for the Diocese of Karwar, which had been created as a diocese separate from Belgaum two years earlier. He holds a doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Urbaniana University, Rome.

He was appointed Bishop of Belgaum by the then Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on February 2, 2006 and Ordained a Bishop at Belgaum on March 30, the same year. Pope Francis appointed Peter Machado as the Archbishop of Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bangalore on 19 March 2018, following the resignation of the reigning Archbishop Bernard Moras.[1][2][3]

His 12 years’ service as the Bishop of Belgaum saw great pastoral, educational and developmental activities in the diocese. Number of new churches built, education institutions, both the schools and institutes of higher learning, newly started and the social work projects taken up, bear witness to this. Though short in stature, he is very brisk in his movements; he is known to travel for hours together without much rest; intellectually a great thinker, a vociferous reader, thus keeping abreast of the events of the time, and a great orator.

He has been a great protagonist of the family mission and has headed the Commission for Families at the Regional level for many years. His interest in making the lay faithful in the church a strong force, saw him heading the Laity Commission at the Regional level and starting of Catholic Council of Karnataka to have a participative laity is one of his great achievements.
