Red de Calor de Soria the biomass district heating plant in Soria uses woodchip residue fuel from the local timber industry. Venture capital firm AXIS, part of Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO), the Spanish promotional bank, has made an equity investment in the project. The project plans to provide 80 GWh of renewable energy a year, which will heat 8,000 homes saving 28 000 tons of carbon emissions.

PKP SKM a local railway carrier in the Tricity area in northern Poland used a 55 million PLN (around €13 million) loan from the Polish Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) to refurbish 22 electric railway carriages, extending the lifetime by 20 years.

Phenix is a French company which has created a digital services which allows customers to optimise sales of food close to its expiration date and connects retailers with charities for food donations.[1]

A large proportion of wasted food is unsold stock from retailers with consumers often reject edible products based on appearance or sell by date.[2]

Novamont is a company which makes bioplastics from cellulose, starches and vegetable oils. They also make biolubricants such as transmission fluids, hydraulic fluids and greases, which decompose a few days.

National promotional institutions from Poland, Italy, France, Germany and Spain, and the European Investment Bank – on July 18th launched a joint initiative on circular economy. to share expertise in financing innovative projects.The initiative plans to increase the EU’s transition to a sustainable and circular economy through €10 billion in investments over the next five years.[3][4]

Sweden has many of the raw materials needed for battery production, such as nickel and graphite as well as having a large amount of inexpensive hydroelectricity generation. [5]
