Drakul is an extreme metal band from the Greater Seattle region of Washington State. They blend styles from other extreme metal genres, mainly black metal and death metal. Most of their lyric content vary from song to song; ranging from Vlad The Impaler to necrophilia, The occult and psychopathology, although their main subjects are those of real life victims and suspects- serial killers and rapists such as Ted Bundy and Ed Gein. The band also strongly promotes small bars and DIY venues for underground music.

Biography[edit]

Drakul started out as a solo project of the guitarist known as Imperator from 2003 until 2006. The project was made after Imperator moved to Washington from Plano, Texas, splitting up his previous band Funeral Dominion. For three years he had used drum-samples from keyboards and drum machines, recording them on to a 4-track player, then recording the guitar over the drums. Several promotional tapes were made in this time, though only a handful of songs were shared via internet until a compilation demo CD was created, entitled Sanguis. This was the only circulated demo that was released as Drakul while it was a solo project.

A guitarist known as Lord Goblinoth was then recruited in the spring of '06. Through the year, both musicians created many promo and rehearsal tapes before recruiting Blaeden "Rigor" Mortis, their current drummer. In this time to late 2007, they would work on the material that would end up being recorded on their first demo as a three-piece-band known as Northwestern Darkness. During these years they started playing bars and small venues.

In 2008, they had played a benefit show for Chuck Schuldiner, along side other Seattle extreme metal bands[1]. Sonneilion joined the group late in the year and took the position as bass, making the band a 4-piece which is still the current line-up. From then and to 2009 they had start to work on more songs for their future albums to come. They had also started to play with more well known metal bands, such as Absu and Cattle Decapitation. Several releases from the band are already planned and written, some of them having a specific theme to each release. Universal Addiction Process (U.A.P.) Is an upcoming EP the band are currently working on that deals with human addiction, habits, and sexual perversions. A future EP that has been already written but not recorded is dedicated to the South Hill Rapist, Fred "Kevin" Coe, and is featured in an article on the Spokesman Review[2].
