INTRODUCTIO

Teen Darwaza Flea Market is a brilliant spot for sightseeing in the city of Ahmedabad. The incredible gates and the carved walls make it a distinctive tourist place to visit. It has supreme Islamic culture and structural design which make it a spot of charm. In Gujarati, Teen Darwaza is known as Tran Darwaja. It is amongst the oldest memorials in the Ahmedabad city. Teen Darwaza is one of the most popular road shopping destinations in Ahmedabad and all over the state. The gateway was built by the Sultan of Ahmedabad Sultan Ahmad Shah 1, who was the founder of Ahmedabad. It has been developed the significant monument of the city at present. Amongst the most developed street flea market in the city is situated in the locality of Teen Darwaza. Since it is a shopping destination, it’s always busy. It has also been used as a logo by Amdavad Municipal Corporation.[1] There are some most famous Flea markets around teen Darwaza that are Ratanpol which is famous for marriage apparel shopping, Dhalgarvad for cloth market. All these places can be visited by hiking through the path from Bhadra Fort to Ratanpol via teen Darwaza. One can get all types of essential things like every age’s clothes, bags, artificial jewelry, watches and household things from pillow to curtain everything one wishes to buy. This makes Teen Darwaza a distinctive place to visit. Teen Darwaza is appealing much the heart of the city with its bazaar still very much active even today. Covered with snakes, the five Palm trees are most significant architectural monuments. This sign also serves as the status symbol of the Government of Gujarat.[2] This magnificent castle is one of the most searched tourist destinations in the city of Ahmedabad. The Teen Darwaza Flea Market has become a major spot of attraction for foreign tourists due to its ancient Indian traditions, Architectures, Location, and widely spread Flea market.[3]


history Teen darwaja was completed in early 1415 and it is located on the east side of Bhadra Fort. The gate features the logo of AMC [Ahmedabad municipal corporation]. Teen darwaja have many alternative names such as in Gujarati Tran darwaja in English Three Gates. In 1877 the gate was repaired and the terrace was made open and the terrace was enthroned with the sovereign. This area is now a congested market. People from various places comes to see the famous Lal darwaja market which is linked with the teen darwaja market. According to the testimonials people about the shopping experience in the flea market tells that near the teen darwaja and Jama masjid there are lots of retail outlets which have 4 times the price of the normal outlet and huge bargaining happens there. The market of teen darwaja is fully congested and for the caution and alertness purpose the customers should be aware about his/her child or about their precious belongings. The specialty goods like Meenakari furniture , rustic showpieces made by the local artisans are available there.


INFRASTRUCTURE

The teen darwaza was an emersion from the bhadra fort to the eastward.The gateway has 3 arches overviewing the courtyard of the palace (formerly known as Maidan Shah) which has a fountain and raised terrace in the centre. The roadway of central gate is 17 feet wide, and that of each arch is 13 feet wide. The stone supporting the structure is highly decorated on the faces of piers between the arches.

The tip arches are at a length of around twenty-five feet from the ground.

Its terrace formerly roofed over was thrown open in 1877.

Maratha governor Chimnaji Raghunath ordered the inscription of an edict on Teen Darwaza on 10 October 1812,originally written in Devnagari, declaring equal right to women in inheritance of ancestral property. It aimed at giving a right to share to the daughter in their father's property without any hitch.

It is an ancient historical gateway of Bhadra Fort. It was built by the Sultan Ahmed Shah. It is an excellent spot for sightseeing. Gateway has three arches which leads to large enclosure of the palace named as Maidan Shah. Teen Darwaja is Teen oldest monuments as well as the oldest gateway of Ahmedabad city which is very famous. Darwaja is also a place for tourist visit. Tourist can visit Teen Darwaja in any season but to visit Teen Darwaja is at the time of afternoon. It is very popular for street shopping. Teen Darwaja is always crowded in all the seasons because of being

shopped destination. Initially it was used to enter in Royal Square.


LOW ECONOMY MARKET

These are markets which tell us about a completely different concept of the economy. These low economic markets are also known as the ‘’FLEA MARKETS‘’ Teen Darwaza is a part of old city of Ahmedabad well known as an old city differentiated by the bridge separating it from the new part of the city across the other side of the bridge. This area of the city starts from the Bhadra Fort well known also as Bhadra Plaza and extends up to Teen Darwaza. This place includes market where products are mainly available at very cheaper rates than those available at the other parts of the city. People from the other parts of the city specially come to visit old city part of Ahmedabad to fulfil their shopping needs at an economical rate. Along with the shopping they relish the delicacies from the old city shops which cannot be availed at the other parts of the city.

Recently the flea market area has also been included in the part of “Heritage Walk.”  Many visitors do visit this place and wonder about different products and goods. Maybe the first visit or the multiple visits, people do not feel shy to come back again and again for their various needs. The prime reason being goods available at a very economical rate.  This distinguished feature of the good quality at economical prices, it has been able to attract a huge number of crowds on any given day.  

Non branded or hardly known brands offering variety of products fulfils the needs of one and all. Everyone finds what he wants and does not have to return empty handed. The narrow lanes buzzing with vehicles and pedestrians offers its own charm for a shopping experience. The additional satisfaction of bargaining which the flea markets offer, cannot be found in the branded stores in the new city shopping malls. Placed itself between the temples and mosques the teen Darwaja area of Ahmedabad provides a unique shopping experience one cherishes long after the purchase. Lick smacking delicacies after a long walk of purchase lingers on forever. Because of being a shopping destination, it’s always crowded. The teen darwaza has become a favourite street shopping spot for articles like clothes, footwear, furniture, cutlery, wall hangings and other decorative items. There are some most famous shopping places around teen darwaza that are Ratanpol famous for wedding wear shopping, Dhalgarvad cloth market, Lal darwaza and temple of goddess bhadrakali. [5]All places are visited by walking through the path from Bhadrakali temple to ratanpol via teen darwaza. You can find all types of necessary things like all age’s clothes, bags, artificial jewellery, watches, and household things from cushion to curtain everything you want. There is Just one condition that you have to be a master in bargaining skills as they tell us doubles of the price. [6]There is lots of variety food in the area like Pani Puri, Samosa, Dhokla, and Kachori, those around the teen darwaza area. Teen darwaza is crowded, but one of the most famous markets for girls and boys. People love to spend their time in shopping due to a variety of items available around teen darwaza markets. The prices of the goods and services there are not fixed the consumer buying the goods and services can bargain and can buy the goods and services at reasonable rates as compared to other areas for shopping in Ahmedabad. Also there is a lot of unity there amongst the shopkeepers and they also help each other and make sure that there is a win-win situation for all.



Present Scenario of Free Market at Teen Darwaja

Ahmedabad has surely changed from the time of Sultan Ahmed Shah and become a first city of India which will have Bullet Train in near future. Teen Darwaza which is known as historical gateway of Bhadra Fort located in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat. It is an excellent spot for sightseeing and also a place for tourist to visit. Teen Darwaja which also has other name which is known as Tran Darwaja. The place is very popular to be known as street shopping. The main market of cloths in teen darwaja is known as Dhalgardwad. All time famous clothes brand like Arvind Mill and famous shop Asopalav had first set up their shop in this region. Teen Darwaja is always crowded all the day as well as it is crowded in all the seasons also. It has many shops and stalls on the road which creates a chaos at day time. Stalls and shops like of clothes, accessories, shoes, household things, wall hanging, things to decorate home, furniture and so on. People now days generally prefer to go there by walking. Things bought from there are available in low rates which is beneficial for all. Due to crowd there are times where space for walking is not available. Teen Darwaja is more famous for things provided there at low rate. People are more attracted towards them because of their quality as well as it is provided at low cost. Competition over there is more because there are stalls who sell same products at same rates or rates may differ, so competition over quality and prices is there. Competition is continuously increasing. Because of crowd and unorganized sanitary system there has been dirt and mess around the places. People without thinking split on the roads and walls which has removed the shine of place. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has failed to maintain purity of Tran Darwaja.[7]
