Article Evaluation

[edit]

I am evaluating the Ikigai article. This specific article is limited on information, only has an overview of data and very few references. I would like to add who practices this, whether its everyday citizens or followers of religion and spirituality, along with more depth about its origins. If nothing else, i would like to add more legitimate references on the topic so that others may look into the meaning of happiness in their own lives.

Draft "Ikigai" Article

[edit]

Ikigai(pronounced ee-kee-guy) is a Japanese concept that is used to define the source of value in an individuals life. The word translated to english roughly means "thing that you live for" or "the reason for which you wake up in the morning."[1] Each individuals ikigai is personal to them and specific to their lives, values and beliefs. It reflects the inner self of an individual and expresses that faithfully, while simultaneously creating a mental state in which the individual feels at ease. Activities that allow one to feel ikigai are never forced on an individual, they are often spontaneous, and always undertaken willingly, giving the individual feeling satisfaction and meaning to life.[2]

Ikigai can be thought of as an intricate venn diagram that combines four aspects of life in order to produce individual happiness. These four aspects include: what you love, what the world needs, what you can be paid for, and what you are good at. They can then be broken down even further into the combination of; passion, mission, vocation and profession.

Edits to "Ikigai" Article

[edit]

1) added "The word "ikigai" is usually used to indicate the source of value in one's life or the things that make one's life worthwhile"[2]

I also read "The Great Pacific Garbage Patch" article and added "The collection of plastic, floating trash halfway between Hawaii and California"[3] to add a geological reference that people can relate to.
