2012-2014: Win: Who Is Next, Mix & Match

[edit]

Yunhyeong joined YG Entertainment in April 2012. As a trainee, he appeared as a member of "Team B" on the reality programme Win: Who Is Next, which was aired on Mnet in 2013. The programme was a 'survival' show in which two teams of YG trainees, Team A and Team B, competed for the chance to debut as a boy group. Both teams competed in three rounds consisting of a song arrangement, dance performance, and original song composition.[1] The winning team, Team A, was determined via public vote, going on to debut as Winner.[2]

In 2014, YG Entertainment announced that the members of Team B would be returning to compete in a second reality survival show, Mix & Match, with the possibility of debuting as part of a new seven-member boy group.[3] While three members of Team B- B.I., Bobby, and Jay were confirmed for the lineup of the new group, Yunhyeong was one of the three Team B members that would compete against each other as well as three new trainees- Chan, Yang Hong-seok, and Jung Jin-hyeong for the remaining spot.[4] Eventually,Yunhyeong was the second trainee announced as a member of the new group, iKON.[5]

2015–present: iKon

[edit]

iKON debuted as a group in October 2015.As an iKON member, Yunhyeong has been involved in production of the group's songs.[6]

On October 27,2017 iKON member Yunhyeong appeared on SBS’s “Law of the Jungle” for the very first time along with Apink members Chorong and Bomi. The three singers joined the existing members on the island of Taveuni, known as the “Garden Island of Fiji.”

Despite this being Yunhyeong’s first appearance in the jungle, he had been watching the show for years and was a big fan. Producing director (PD) Kim Jin Ho said, “Yunhyeong had watched ‘The Law of the Jungle’ a lot. During the interview, it seemed like he memorized [the show].”

Kim Jin Ho praised Yunhyeong, saying, “It was his first time going to the jungle, but I had high expectations for him thinking he could do a lot. He satisfied my expectations by 200 percent. He did really well.”

Kim Jin Ho added, “YG Entertainment has a chic image, but Yunhyeong wasn’t anything like that at all. When the older members called him maknae [youngest], he showed off his charms when answering them. When I told him during the interview that he was completely different from his image and seemed comfortable with everyone, he said he was happy because that was his goal. He was glad that the older members could approach him comfortably.”

According to staff members, Yunhyeong had always hoped to go to the jungle, so he enjoyed his time on the show and used the skills he learned just by being a big fan of the show. Despite being the youngest, he also actively participated with the group by fishing, diving, and cooking.n fact, it was revealed that he never missed a single episode of the show, memorized all the interviews and personally sent many videos to get casted despite YG's strong objection of letting him go.

Through this show, he stood out in many aspects such as fishing, diving and cooking.

His charms and personality made him top all the Korean searching engines while his moment alone got the show its highest audience rating 15.7% for the season.

On January 16,2018 a source from JTBC confirmed that iKON's Yunhyeong,b.I,bobby,Koo Junhoe along with Seungri will be recording for the show on January 25, but the broadcast date has yet to be determined.[7]

On August 21,2018 iKON’s Yunhyeong joined the cast of JTBC’s upcoming social media-focused show “Awesome Feed”.

In addition, Yunhyeong’s fellow iKON member Bobby is said to be supporting him on the show, with the pair showing off their chemistry as good friends. Ahead of the recording, Yunhyeong said, “I want to show sides of myself that I haven’t been able to show before.”|[8]
