Avorion is an open world space simulator video game developed and published by Boxelware for Windows and Linux . It was released as Early Access on January 23, 2017 through Steam.[3] The game is mainly based on creating and flying spaceships through procedurally generated galaxy sectors.[4]
Gameplay
[edit]The player's main objective is to build and upgrade his spaceship. He therefore needs to mine, trade and fight in order to gain resources. [5] [6] [7] [8]
The game world consists of small sectors that, in their entirety, form one big galaxy. Sectors closer the center of the galaxy yield better resources, but have a higher difficulty with stronger enemies.[1]
The player repeatedly gets mission objectives which he can pursuit, if he wants to.
Development
[edit]Avorion was initially developed by Konstantin Kronfeldner. He started the game as a hobby project in December 2011.[2]
In April, 2016, Konstantin launched a Kickstarter campaign for Avorion. To promote the kickstarter campaign, he also created an Imgur post, demonstrating various features of the game.[9] The post received a lot of attention, and the kickstarter raised over 16,000€.[10]
On December 15, 2015, Avorion was greenlit by the Steam community, meaning the game would eventually be added to the Steam store. It was officially made available on Steam on January 23, 2017.[11]
