Towards Darkness is a musical group based in Montreal, Canada. They play what can be considered a mix of the following genres: Funeral Doom, Sludge Post-Hardcore. They are presently signed with Avantgarde Music for the release of their upcoming album "Barren".

History

Formed in 2001 by Kevin Jones on bass and vocals and Joël Cyr on guitar when the latter moved to Montreal that year. Both had previously collaborated on different projects in their native Gaspe Peninsula. They started with a drum machine and eventually found a drummer who would suit their needs. Under the band name The Mass, The original lineup consisted of Kevin, Joël, and Nick Richards on drums. The trio released an album entitled “Towards Darkness” on GWN Records in 2004. Due to a band from California having already claimed The Mass, the name was then changed to Towards Darkness. After having Simon C- Bouchard join them on keyboards, they signed with the Montreal label Twilight Foundation and released the album "Solemn" in 2008. Now, ten years after they initially formed, Towards Darkness counts five members with the recent addition of Samuel Dufour on guitar. A third album called Barren will be released in 2012 on the Italian record label Avantgarde Music.

The Mass - Towards Darkness

Released in 2004 on local Montreal record label GWN records under the band name The Mass. Nick Richards had joined the band 6 months before recording what the band thought would be a demo.
