It began service in mid 2013, providing mainly Western food under affordable price i.e. below HK$50 for a meal set with capacity of around 250 diners. Food Served

[edit]

AC3 Bistro, which is based on a ‘pay before enjoy’ principle, similar to franchised fast food restaurant Cafe de Coral, is divided into two serving stations:

  • A cafeteria counter that includes all-day meal set with provision of scrambled eggs, toast and either one out of two types of pastas including one beverage. Students and staffs can also order food like grilled spring chicken, carbonara in creamy sauce, linguine bolognaise, baked rice with various choices of sauce and toppings from pork chops in tomato sauce to sole fillet with broccoli in creamy sauce. On top of that, pizzas with toppings like pepperoni, olives, pineapple, hams and more are presented. With additional prices, green salad, creamy soup and regular drinks of either brewed coffee, Hong-Kong-style milk tea, fresh orange juice and more are offered.

Type of Customers

[edit]
  • Unlike canteens in Academic 1 and 2 Building that include a variety of diners from high school students in Kowloon district, office associates from Festival Walk and certainly students and staff from the City University of Hong Kong, AC3 Bistro which serves mainly Western food in acceptable price and quality, is composed of a relatively larger proportion of international students, followed by local students and staff, while people from outside the university are rarely seen to have meals in AC3 Bistro.

Facilities

[edit]

The settings of tables and chairs are mainly divided into four types, allowing students to choose according to the number of people or own purpose.

long tables that allow a group of diners to share meals together
  • The majority of seats are consisted of long tables with small round chairs which can accommodate around ten people on the same table. Students who are no matter alone or with a group of friends can sit on both sides of the table like the style of "speed dating" and in a fast-food shop.
circle table that accommodate around 6-8 people at a time
  • There are totally eight dining tables, each in a circle shape together with a semicircle shape of sofa to accommodate around four to six people at a time. It allows students to launch short chic-chat with friends as the circle shaped table enables their conversation.

  • The third type of seats is “bar-tables” which are mainly occupied by foreign students who long to have a drink with pals as the design is similar to the bars that are commonly found in Western countries.
  • The last type is tables and seats in a “card position” which is suitable for two people like couples to sit on and have their meals. As the “card-position” seats are placed at the corner of canteen, they are relatively quiet, which is alike to western restaurant.

There is a glass floor right next to the “card-position” seats as well as the “bar-table”seat. It allows diners to enjoy the view of Tat Chee Avenue outside the canteen as well as the U-circle of City University of Hong Kong with blossoms along the stairs.

Ambience

[edit]

The design of AC3 Bistro is in a relaxing European style, similar to cafeteria like Delifrance. Diners can have choices of dining inside the cafeteria or chilling outside at the balcony area with better ventilation and scenery. Alongside dimmed lights with soothing background music as well as comfy sofas, diners are able to sit back and enjoy their meals.
