Suny S. Virk

(born March 31, 1972 in Greenford, England) is a Canadian criminal defence lawyer and member of the Law Society of Upper Canada[1], best known for his English-born Indo-Canadian heritage and defence of South Asians charged with various criminal offences. Virk has extensive experience in trial and appellate cases. Virk has appeared on CBC, CTV, Global, City TV and 680 News. His cases have been featured in all of the major Toronto newspapers, including The Globe & Mail, The Toronto Star[2][3] and The Toronto Sun[4].

Virk attended law schools in both Canada and the United States. He interned with the State Appellate Defender's Office in Michigan, representing indigent clients and drafted criminal appeals for the Michigan Supreme Court. He also interned at the Michigan District Court where he assisted the Chief Judge, prior to attending the University of Windsor Law School, as part of his accreditation.

Ultimately, he articled for the most famous defence lawyer in Canada, Edward L. Greenspan[5], prior to obtaining his call to the Bar. While working with Greenspan, he became committed to aggressively representing and protecting the rights of those charged with criminal offences.

Virk is one of the senior lawyers in the law firm of Bhangal & Virk[6]. Along with Avtar Bhangal[7], the lawyers have been recognized for their creative, resourceful and passionate representation of the Punjabi community in the Toronto area.

He is the brother of Jazz Virk[8], a famous film and award winning video director.
