Early Life[edit]

Lane Castro was born on October 8, 2001, in Rocklin, California, however, he moved to live in Roseville with his grandparents in addition to his parents at the age of 2. At a young age, he would be listening to artists such as Iamsu, Future, YG, and G-Eazy. At the age of 16, he began making music on the computer he built at the age of 12. Around that time, he was "The Vape Plug" due to his sales in small e-cigarette style devices to his peers, raking in profits to pay for fast food and Uber rides. Once he attended high school, he started learning how to make beats on his computer and create tracks in FL Studio and Audacity. In 2017, shortly before his birthday, he put out his first single, 1-0 featuring Yung Shinobi, a fellow high school student.

Influences and Idols[edit]

Skywalker would take a major influence from Shoreline Mafia (a Los Angeles, California based rap group), as well as hints of style from Future, Iamsu, and Lil Skies, creating a Los Angeles sound with an Atlanta twist, adding his own flare here and there.

Early Rapping: 1-0, Swerve[edit]

Skywalker would be freestyling with friends for years before he ever made his first track. On September 29, 2017, he would release 1-0, featuring fellow high school student Yung Shinobi, collaborating together on a beat from YouTube. The support on their first song shocked them, so Skywalker decided to keep going, releasing his single "Swerve", made up of 32 bars straight rapping (no hook/chorus, no intro).

Stage Performance and Gaining Traction[edit]

In January of 2018, Skywalker and a few of his friends decided to put on a concert in their hometown of Roseville, behind a barber shop. There is where he performed his most popular song to date, "Nikes", which holds over 12,000 plays on SoundCloud as of October 2018. He created this song with inspiration of when he would sneak out and drive around with his friends and laid out his lyrics over a re-produced Pierre Bourne beat from his song "Nike". This song was supposed to feature two other people originally, but they decided to let him have it solo after about a month and no idea what to write. After about a half hour in his studio, he came up with the first verse, but not finishing the song until just a week before the concert.

Apple Music: Nothing New[edit]

In the summer of 2018, Skywalker decided to record another song titled Nothing New, taking inspiration from Lil Skies to create a catchy hook and a very fast paced second verse. This song would be his first song on major paid subscription streaming services such as Apple Music, Spotify, and Tidal.

First Album: Stick Shift Stunna[edit]

In September of 2018, Skywalker started to truly take the Shoreline Mafia style to heart, creating a whole album in less than 1 month. He would release it on his 17th birthday (October 8th, 2018) as a way to revive his SoundCloud from months of no music. Here he produced a good amount of the tracks on his album, such as "Wave Kit" and "Bandit". While this album had 10 tracks (9 songs and an intro), it would only have one feature, being MBandz, a high school graduate whom he met in Spanish class during his freshman year. He would include lots of references to fast cars, lean, money, and women, and would gain inspiration for the title from driving a manual transmission car and sneaking out at night with his friends, scaring them with his fast driving.
