User:Inersha

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My name is Greg, I'm from Wales, and I like making websites.

Some other things I enjoy include; walking, writing, reading, programming, music, and beer. I'm sure I have more interests, but those are the ones that take up the most of my time.

The name "Inersha" is just a phonetic spelling of the word inertia. It came about when I needed to create a username for an online forum and couldn't think of anything remarkable to use. Fortunately I was studying inertia in my Physics lessons at the time, so I went with that, but that exact word was already taken, so I changed the spelling, and hey presto. If "inersha" is taken I go by "in3rsha" instead.

Websites.[edit]

I like creating simple websites that help people. I am currently writing an educational bitcoin website called learnmeabitcoin.com.

I started making websites when I was a teenager. I was amazed at the fact that you could create something on your computer and publish it on the Internet for anyone in the world to see.

I'm still trying to make something that is cool.

Most of my websites are programmed in PHP. I like it as a language; it allows you to get things done without getting in the way. But when I'm not making websites, my favorite language to program in is Ruby.

Linux.[edit]

I've been using Linux on my main desktop for about seven years. I wanted an operating system that gave me control over my computer, and I'm forever grateful that one exists.

My rough setup is as follows:

  • Laptop: ThinkPad X220 — It's a great machine.
  • OS: Ubuntu — I just like how everything just works.
  • DE: XFCE — A clean and minimal workspace. I like keeping my active files on the desktop when working on projects. i3 is also great but I don't always use it.
  • Editor(s): VS Code, Emacs, Vim, Gedit — I use a combination depending on the task: VS Code for big projects with lots of files, Emacs for programming on a small number of files. Vim for editing config files, and Gedit for text editing.

Music.[edit]

A few bands I like:

Ask for my top 5 in a few weeks and it will probably be different again.

Books.[edit]

My favorite book is Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky.

Games.[edit]

I used to play online poker. I think it's an interesting game and it taught me a lot about probability, but ultimately it is just a game. I spend my time building websites these days, although I don't mind playing a few hands from time to time.

I don't play video games as much as I used to either, but one of my favorite games is Ocarina of Time. I also like The Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild. In fact I like most games made by Nintendo; they make games that teach you good things.

I'm impressed by people who can program games by themselves, such as Chris Sawyer.

Cryptography.[edit]

I have a new interest in Cryptography. I made an animation of the SHA256 hash algorithm to see how it worked. I learned a lot in the process and I like how it turned out.

It seems like a lot of work in Cryptography is based on Number Theory.
