Getting Results the Agile Way is a personal productivity and time management system created by J.D. Meier, described in a book of the same name. The focus of the system is on having agility to respond to changing circumstances, and on producing results that can be stated in terms of outcomes or wins. [1]


Three Keys to the System[edit]

There are three basic steps to implementing Getting Results the Agile Way:

  1. Adopt The Rule of 3 as a way to prioritize and focus.
  2. Adopt the Monday Vision, Daily Outcomes, Friday Reflection pattern for weekly results.
  3. Set time boundaries in Hot Spots to balance across demands in work and life.


Methodology Overview[edit]

Monday Vision, Daily Outcomes, Friday Reflection can be summarized as follows:

  • On Mondays, the focus is on identifying three wins for the week. This is Monday Vision. [1]
  • Each day of the week, in the morning, the goal is to identify three wins for that day. These are Daily Outcomes. [1]
  • On Friday, the goal is to identify three things going well and three things to improve. This is Friday Reflection. [1]


Hot Spots can be summarized as follows:

  • Hot Spots represent the areas of focus, such as projects, problem areas, opportunity areas, activities, or roles.
  • There are three main categories of Hot Spots: Work, Personal, and Life.
  • The Life Hot Spots list includes: mind, body, emotions, career, finance, relationships, and fun.
  • The heat map metaphor is used with Hot Spots to suggest that opportunities and pain can be seen at a glance.
  • The method is based on the idea that having a big picture view of priorities can improve time management and prioritization.

The foundation for Getting Results the Agile Way is a set of 10 values, 10 principles, and 12 practices. [1] The principles are designed to be guidelines that can be adapted for an individual or a situation. The practices are designed to be adopted individually or used together.
