Yazidis in Brazil refers to people in Brazil who have Yazidi ancestral background. There are estimated 155,250 Yazidis in Brazil, mostly from Iraq, with others being from Turkey.
History[edit]
The first Yazidis in Brazil were brought by the Portuguese from the Persian (present-day Iran) villages near the present-day Iraqi–Iranian border during the Portuguese colonization of the Americas in the 1600s. The first massive immigration from Iraq started shortly after the Gulf War. After the fall of Mosul in June 2014, Yazidis fled Nineveh Province and re-settled by the government of Brazil, at the tent cities near Guarulhos International Airport. Syrian Yazidis fled their home country after the Syrian Civil War breaks out.
