The BAFTA Awards have been held annually since 1949. They are presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Since 1998, two separate ceremonies have been held, the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA Film Awards) and the British Academy Television Awards (BAFTA TV Awards).[1] The awards are the UK equivalent to the Academy Awards (Oscars) and Emmy Awards in the US. Judi Dench holds the record for the most BAFTA Film Award nominations in the acting categories with 15,[2] followed by Meryl Streep with 14 and Maggie Smith with 13. Dench also holds the record for the most BAFTA TV Award nominations in the acting/performance categories with 12, followed by Ronnie Barker with 11. This gives Dench a total of 27 nominations (10 wins).[3] Second is Maggie Smith with a total of 18 nominations.
