Strawberry Fields is an annual music festival which takes place in Bangalore, India. A grassroots level event, it has seen seventeen editions so far. It works with the primary objective of promoting original music by providing a platform for upcoming bands. In the past, bands such as Parikrama, Pentagram, Kryptos,Pin Drop Violence, Motherjane andSkyharbor have performed at the festival.

Organization[edit]

The event is organized by the students of the National Law School of India University, who assume responsibility of all aspects of the show, ranging from organization, registration of teams and transportation. Strawberry Fields has been associated with Reynold's Sound and Lighting, which has supplied material for international acts such as Iron Maiden, Deep Purple and the Scorpions. The bands get to perform with a state of the art Meyer sound system, and Clay Paky lighting.

History[edit]

Born as ‘Lawcommotion’ in 1997, Strawberry Fields has been seen as a stage for both the performance and appreciation of original music. Originally part of LeGala, the NLSIU's literary and cultural fest, it was held alongside the NLS Debate and other cultural events. Since then, the event has gone on to branch off into a much bigger undertaking, constantly growing in terms of scale and reputation, and now occupies its own niche in the music calendar.

The aim of Strawberry Fields being the encouragement of new bands, there have been many stalwarts in the Indian music scene who have kicked off their careers with successful performances at the event. Bands such as Motherjane, Bhayanak Maut, the Raghu Dixit Project and Pin Drop Violence have gone on to achieve success after their acts at the event.

Format[edit]

The festival itself is spread across three days, with free entry for the audience. Around fifty bands compete in the preliminary rounds, with every band getting thirty minutes to perform. Following these rounds, five of the best bands are shortlisted to competing in the finals. In addition, there are headlining performances, as well as special acts on the second and third days of the event.

Location[edit]

The festival is held at the National Law School of India University, in Nagarbhavi, a suburb fourteen kilometers away from the heart of Bangalore. Previous editions have also been held at the Palace Grounds in the city.
