From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rox De Luca (born 1963) is an Australian visual artist who makes sculptural objects and installations predominantly from found plastics. Currently lives on Gadigal Land, in Bondi NSW. Since the mid 1980s De Luca has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions, nationally and internationally.
Personal Life[edit]
[edit]“From a young age, De Luca was made aware of the importance of a sustainable lifestyle, as modelled by her parents. “They came from Italy, and made do with things; recycling and composting. I am the third of four girls, and my mother used to make our clothes. There was always that kind of sensibility of using what you had and using it as much as you could.”
Work[edit]
[edit]"De Luca’s practice often involves salvaging plastics collected from her local beaches where she is based in Bondi. The plastics are then sorted and threaded using strings of wire into sculpture works that speaks to consumption, abundance, and waste."
In 2024 De Luca was the inaugural artist in residence at Orlebar Brown.
In 2022 De Luca contributed work to the artist's collective Project Vortex - Intercepting the Plastic Waste Stream.
Residencies[edit]
[edit]De Luca has been a finalist in a number of art prizes and has received artist-in-residence opportunities including the Gunyah Residency Program, NSW, and in 2022 undertook the Artist-in-Residence, Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf, NSW program.
