Manuel José Antonio Blanco y Calvo Encalada (Buenos Aires, Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, Spanish Monarchy, 21 April 1790 – Santiago, Republic of Chile, 5 September 1876), known simply as Manuel Blanco Encalada (Spanish pronunciation: [maˈnwel ˈβlaŋko eŋkaˈlaða])
Early life
[edit]Family
[edit]Blanco Encalada was born into a noble and aristocratic family. His father was the Spanish jurist Lorenzo Blanco Cicerón (1743–1790), originally from Galicia, from a noble family,[Note 1] who was for much of his life an official of the Spanish Monarchy who served first as a prosecutor and then as a oidor. In America, he held such positions in the royal audiences of Santiago, Charcas and Buenos Aires from 1777 to 1790, the year of his death.[2]
