Hi there,

My name is Andrew Lau and I'm a 24 year old Computer Science student from Sydney, Australia. I've been on Wikipedia since October 2003, but I didn't start becoming a Wikipedian until 2006. My nickname comes from having played as a sniper in QuakeWorld Team Fortress many, many years ago.

Wikipedia often does feel like a game of no consequence from time to time with the endless hours of bias, edit-warring, fancruft, lies, spam, vanity and vandalism to deal with, but I'm still here helping out behind the scenes. Why? Because deep down I believe that information wants to be free and I feel that it's my duty to make sure that this place doesn't fall apart while this great project tries to document everything notable known to humanity.

I just hope I don't forget to bring my towel

Everyone should have at least one inane claim to WikiFame! For example, I came up with the increasingly popular single_purpose_account {{spa}} tag. I think I still have 14 minutes of fameWP:VAIN left to use around here...

— Possible single purpose account: Netsnipe (talkcontribs) has made little or no other contributions outside this topic.

My other claim (slightly less inane), is that I was the 1001st Wikipedian to be promoted to Wikipedia:Administrator on 3 September, 2006.[2].

A Barnstar!

I award you this barnstar as recognition of the fine work you did in trying to explain to about why his posts on genetics aren't acceptable on Wikipedia - you managed to deal with what could have ended up as a huge post-war with a cool head. Thank you! -Killfest2 04:58, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
