The 1994–95 Tigres UANL season is the 35th season in the football club's history and the 28th consecutive season in the top flight of Mexican football.
Summary
[edit]In summertime, Manuel Silos in his 3rd year as Chairman of the Club's Executive Board and also Dean of the University of Nuevo Leon (thanks to then-President of Mexico Carlos Salinas de Gortari)[1] in a sign of austerity for upcoming years due to the Mexican peso crisis which hit the Federal Government Budget included state universities around the country such as: Tigres UANL, Correcaminos UAT, Leones Negros UdeG and, of course, even Pumas UNAM.[2] reinforced the squad in an alliance with Televisa which in exchange of TV broadcasting rights for the upcoming season agreed to several transfers in of players such as Antonio Carlos Santos,[3] Cesilio de los Santos[4] and Jorge Vieira[5] the latter former head coach two-times league champion during the 80s couching América. Also, Miguel España, Roberto Ruiz Esparza and Gilson arrived to the team feeding high-expectations for the campaign.
However, the chaos from the last season reached the 94-95 term, after 20 rounds Silos sacked Vieira and appointed Carlos de los Cobos not being enough to improve the squad performance. Finally, the club finished in a 18th spot with only 24 points being its worst season ever and with serious relegation problems for the next year.[6]
