Biography[edit]

Ginetta La Bianca was born in Buffalo, New York and began classical singing at age 9. When she was 14, she performed Delibes The Bell Song, with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. A few days before she turned 16, she made her operatic debut at the Rome Opera House as Rosina in Rosini's Barber of Seville. For this performance, she is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records[1] as the youngest opera singer.

In 1951, at the age of 17, she performed Rosina in [Rossini]]'s Barber of Seville at the New York Carnegie Hall. As a young colortura soprano, her voice was said to have a charming birdlike quality[2][3]. Within a two years, she was singing with the Cincinnati Opera, the Sydney Opera,[4], and XYZ.

She was awarded the 1958 William Matheus Sullivan Foundation Award for promising opera singers[5].

She studied and performed[6] Hebrew music with Sholom Secunda in New York City Mr. Secunda wrote, "Ginetta La Bianca has performed with me in many concerts at the Condord Hotel. She is a shining interpreter of Jewish concert and folk songs."[7]. Later, she sang at Tanglewood Institute[8], with the Philadelphia Lyric Opera Company[9], and at Carnegie Hall[10].

On May 15, 1973, she performed at the White House in honor of Emperor Haile Selassie, at the invitation of president Richard Nixon[11]
