A Walk Through Salem is a fairy tale and walking tour through Salem Ma. The story starts in the Salem Commons at the Unzipping Tree. A Gentleman speaks to you the reader and invites you to walk through the Unzipping Tree after he opens it with a large magic magnet. Then you can enter the magical whimsical side of Salem where fish fly, the Hawthorne statue smokes a bubble pie, tall ships drop anchor next to parking meters, and Vikings storm Dead Horse Beach. A Walk Through Salem is the newest walking tour in Salem Ma. John Goff of the Salem Preservation Society says "
A great variety of historic and architectural walking tours have been created in the last two decades to promote Salem and its many cherished historic sites. A Walk Through Salem, however does something different: it mixes the real and the surreal. It dares us to engage and test our imaginations. It is an outpouring of creativity that dares to push the limits of the very concept of “creative economy.” It potentially opens many doors, and it promises to be a walking tour … with a twist.

A Walk Through Salem gives you the history and magic of one of the countries oldest cities as it showcases this cities architect that spans close to 400 years. It is full of famous people, werewolves, witches, mummies, and ghosts. Plus some Vikings!
The Walking Tour
[edit]A Walk Through Salem offers a skin you can download to Google Earth to apply on the map of Salem or view in your browser. Afterwards you can walk through Salem with your book in hand and learn all the history of Salem's geography, people, and places. A Walk Through Salem has won their second grant [1], after winning their first in 2008 to publish the book, from the Mass Cultural Council to paint giant footsteps throughout town for readers to follow. In the future A Walk Through Salem will implement augmented reality visors to be triggered by GPS coordinates to have images illustrated in the book appear in front of you in real time. Also the book has bar codes in the back of the book to further your enjoyment by linking to many of the sites illustrated to inform you of events or sales in town. These bar codes are accessible from your cell phone.
The Fairy Tale
[edit]A Walk Through Salem follows the traditional fairy tale cycle with a psychological underpinning. It follows many themes Joseph Campbell discusses in his Monomyth. Readers are welcomed into the tale by Mr. Zac who talks directly to them. Also implied is that there are several people reading the story along with you which is much reminiscent to Bastian's realization in the Neverending Story. Plus what is fun is that you can walk through town and see the real people illustrated in the book. Kind of like when Dorothy wakes up to find the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Lion to really be farm hands on her aunts farm. Other Characters in the book include Charles Lenox Remond, Alexander Graham Bell, Nathaniel Hawthorne, H.P. Lovecraft, Fredrick Douglass, Roger Conant, Mamadou Diop (musician), and Henry Sinclair.
