The oval-shaped B♭ Tenorhorn is commonly used in Eastern Europe as a middle voice in brass bands and has a prominent solo in the opening movement of Mahler's 7th Symphony.[1] The tenorhorn has a similar bore to the instrument known in America and the UK as the baritone horn[1] and uses a cup shaped mouthpiece interchangable with the other members of the baritone-euphonium-trombone family of brass instruments (as opposed to the tapered mouthpiece of the horn or wagner tuba).[2] Oval tenorhorns were initially created for use in military marching bands, where it was important for the bell not to obstruct the player's line of sight.[3]
