Murdoch MacLeod (Murdo MacLeod) (born August 1947), is a director of MacLeod Construction Limited, Lochgilphead, Argyll, Scotland. In 2010, he was awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion for playing an outstanding role[1] in promoting enterprise skills and attitudes.[2] The award was presented by Vince Cable.[3]

MacLeod was also chair of the Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust for Argyll and the Islands from 1993[4] to at least 2011.[5]

Life and career[edit]

MacLeod and his twin brother Kenny grew up in Lochgilphead.[6] They acquired the estate they grew up on.[7] They founded the business MacLeod Construction later M & K MacLeod.[8] In 2009 it was ranked as 12th fastest growing private company in the Sunday Times' Profit Track 100.[9] The firm also helped start a local construction college.[10] M & K MacLeod is active in building, quarrying, biomass, and producing kit houses and employs some 200 people directly, with additional subcontractors. The firm is one of the largest privately owned businesses in the region according to Santander.Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).

MacLeod is active in enterprise, mentoring ex-MacLeod employees who start their own businesses. He provided office accommodation for the Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust, and aimed to create at least 30 start-ups per year, mostly from the 18-25 age group. He set up eight local panels with business support. He regularly hosts school visits to discuss entrepreneurial activities.[4]

Personal life[edit]

MacLeod is married to Jane, a solicitor and company secretary.[11] MacLeod enjoys boating in Achnaba, a Stormforce 11.[12][13]
