Ari Kamin (born Ariel Kamin; March 7, 1986) is an Argentine singer, songwriter, and lead vocalist for Steven Adler of Guns N' Roses. He is known for his powerful voice and wide vocal range. His staging, charisma and relationship with the audience remind of rock gods like Freddie Mercury, Jim Morrison and Steven Tyler. Reporter Angel Alamo said in one of his reviews "It’s good to know that the future of rock n' roll is in great hands. What I admire most about Ariel, he reminds me of what makes rock n' roll fun".[1]

Life and career[edit]

Childhood and early years[edit]

Ari Kamin was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 7, 1986. Major of three brothers, son of Liliana Claudia Sapir (Psychopedagogue born in Buenos Aires on August 21, 1958) and Juan Alberto Kamin (Medical radiologist born in Entre Ríos on March 31, 1957). Family's surname comes from Jewish settlers from Poland and Russia. Kamin spent his childhood in Villa Crespo, a neighborhood located in the center of the city of Buenos Aires where he began taking piano lessons at the age of five and then studied arts and music more deeply at the Collegium Musicum of Buenos Aires. The Kamin family lived in a small apartment located to Hidalgo 1320. In 1992 Ariel started to study at Francisco de Vitoria elementary school located in Julian Alvarez street. When he was six he formed his first band "King" in reference to his love for Queen. Kamin's musical talent was noticed by the school principal, who encouraged him to star in the leading roles at school events. Coming from a Jewish family, at the age of thirteen Kamin had his Bar-mitzvah celebration at Or Israel Community located in Planes 1049, Buenos Aires. After the three-day temple ceremony, where he impressed everyone with his voice, he was offered the position of Hazzan, which he declined. In 1999 Kamin started his studies at ORT Technical School where he studied Music production, graduating with a diploma in 2003. During his high school years he performed live for the first time leading Aleasion, a band with which he played covers of Stratovarius, Metallica and Rata Blanca among others. Shortly after he leaded Il Abuoso, a tribute band to Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota, with which he began touring the Buenos Aires scene. In 2003 Kamin joined guitarist Patricio Crom to form Living Rough, founding what would later become Criaturas Salvajes.

From high school to the world[edit]

Living Rough was a high school band. Once school was over, it turned hard for the band to continue playing, as their fan base was mainly friends from school. After several changes of members, the line up was consolidated and Living Rough began to play important gigs but it wasn't until they changed the name to Criaturas Salvajes, that the fame of band began to take off. The love that Ari Kamin had for Entre Ríos, land where his paternal family lived for generations, led the band to tour the entire province, consolidating Criaturas Salvajes as a must see act across the biggest motorcycle festivals in Argentina[2] and reaching even the Uruguay market.[3] With a growing audience and the band going through its best time, Criaturas Salvajes released their first studio album "Dejame Entrar" and Kamin caught the attention of renowned producers from the local scene. In 2011 Kamin was invited to join Coverheads, The Roxy's house band formed by prominent musicians from the Argentine music scene, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusion I & Use Your Illusion II. From that moment on, Ari would become an essential piece in Coverheads performances.

Buenos Aires, Paradise City[edit]

Due to the success of the Guns N 'Roses repertoire on the Coverheads setlist achieved by Kamin's performances, the production company "MTS Producciones" decided in 2012 to create Son of a Gun by recruiting members of renowned Argentine bands. Beside Ari Kamin as leader and frontman, the band also included drummer Lucas Hernandez from Cuentos Borgeanos, bassist 'Chotas' from Watchmen and guitarrists Pablo Name from Neuroina and Dani Alk from Criaturas Salvajes. The band started to garner some local success doing live shows and soon they would headline big shows and parties along the most important Buenos Aires venues such El Teatro de Flores, The Roxy and The Roxy Live! In 2016 Steven Adler rejoined GUNS N' ROSES at several shows on the Not in This Lifetime... Tour, including three stops on the U.S. leg and two gigs in Buenos Aires, Argentina, playing drums on "Out Ta Get Me" and "My Michelle". After the second show in Buenos Aires the drummer joined SON OF GUN on stage at The Roxy Live! to perform several GN'R classics, including "You Could Be Mine" and "Welcome To The Jungle". The news spread quickly and videos of Adler playing with Son of a Gun went around the world.[4] Kamin's vocals and onstage presence were so impressive that in 2018 Steven Adler recruited him to join his band Adler's Appetite.[5][6][7]

Touring USA[edit]

Since Kamin joined Adler's Appetite he's been touring all across the United States playing major festivals such as the M3 Festival[8], Rocktember[9], Brat Fest in Wisconsin and the Iowa State Fair.[10] He has also headlined some of the Sunset Boulevard's most iconic venues such as the Whisky a Go Go[11] and the Rainbow Bar and Grill.[12] Ariel Kamin rocked the stages of major motorcycle rallies such as Roar on the Shore and luxury hotels and casinos such as The Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, Sandia Resort and Casino, Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort and The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Biloxi, Mississippi. Among the artists with whom Kamin has shared the billboard as frontman of Steven Adler's band are Whitesnake, Vince Neil of Motley Crue, Extreme, Warrant, Skid Row, Quiet Riot, Dee Snider, Slaughter, Night Ranger, Pat Benatar, Vixen, FireHouse, Jackyl, Smash Mouth and Pretty Boy Floyd just to name a few. Former Dokken and currently Foreigner bassist Jeff Pilson described Kamin as "An Argentinian guy that is just phenomenal. I mean the guy is mean. You got to go on YouTube and see some videos of the guy. He’s amazing."[13] On October 30, 2019 Ariel Kamin set sail for the Bahamas and Jamaica aboard the Kiss Kruise where he performed three shows onboard. The Kiss Kruise IX "Rock n Roll Legacy" line up also included Kiss, The Darkness, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown and Bruce Kulick among others.[14]
