Lumino Health is a healthcare application created by the Canadian insurance company, Sun Life Financial.[1] The application was launched on October 30th, 2018[2] and is free to all Canadians, including those who do not currently have insurance with Sun Life. The platform offers health resources to Canadians, including health articles, a provider search tool, and a "discovery lab" which offers discounted prices on health-related apps, products and resources.[3]

Health Topics

[edit]

Lumino Health focuses on 7 main health topics: Fitness and Lifestyle, Mental Health, Family Health, Diet and Nutrition, Virtual and Home Health, Diabetes, and Aging and Caregiving. Within each of these categories are a number of articles written by healthcare professions. The content of the articles is either fact based or opinion based, with information on a variety of topics.[3]

Finding a Provider

[edit]
For patients
[edit]

The provider search aspect of Lumino Health attempts to aid users in finding a healthcare provider. Users have the ability to search for a specific type of healthcare provider in their geographic area and be taken to custom profiles of the healthcare providers. The profiles offer information such as their name, location of practice, phone number, relative cost per visit, dollar sign rating for price, and a star-based rating system based on ratings from past patients.[3]

For health-care providers
[edit]

Health care providers can create their own custom-profile to be added into the provider search network. The custom profile registration page asks providers to fill out their business contact information including facility name, address, phone number, principal business contact, and business e-mail. The registration page also requires information for hours of operation, a facility summary, a list of services provides, and a list of providers who work at the facility. Healthcare providers can also add images of their facility and providers and include amenities such as free parking, wifi, weekend hours, evening hours, wheelchair accessible and close to public transit however, this information is not required. [3]

Types of providers
[edit]

The provider search tool is open to paramedical providers, dental service providers, vision providers and medical equipment suppliers. The tool does not include information on family practices, walk-in clinics, or surgical practitioners. [3]
