Raad M Mukhlis, Born in Baghdad - Iraq in 1948, an Iraqi politician and academic residing between the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, and the American capital, Washington. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Baghdad - Iraq and a PhD in surgery from the University of Geneva - Switzerland. He worked as a professor at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, as well as a consultant doctor in the city of medicine in Baghdad - Iraq. He worked as a professor and consultant physician at the Iraqi Commission for Medical Consultations and the Arab Council for Medical Specialization. He also worked as an international health and medical adviser at the United Nations. He practiced political work at an early stage of his life and was always conservative on his political activity as an independent and not affiliated with the parties or political organization. In 1993, Dr. Mukhlis and a group of free Iraqi patriots founded a socio-economic political movement called "The Gathering for Iraq (GFI), which was operating secretly until 2003. After the collapse of the political system in Iraq during the entry of the American military forces to Baghdad, Dr. Mukhlis announced the public appearance of the movement." In January 2004 to work towards achieving national goals and rebuilding a single, free and independent Iraq. Dr. Mukhlis was nominated as Minister of Defense in 2003 by the Governing Council and is the second administrative body formed in Iraq after the fall of the political system. In 2004 he was nominated for the position of President of the Republic of Iraq by various political activities and the authority of the Civil Coalition in Iraq and he apologized for the position due to sectarian and ethnic distribution In state institutions. In August 2011, Dr. Mukhlis was nominated by the Iraqi National Alliance to take over the Interior Ministry's portfolio in the second government of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and for the defense portfolio by the Iraqi List headed by former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi.
