Abu al-Fazl Muhammad Fayez al-Maram Nasir Jang (née Mirza Khayyam) is an Pakistani writer and historian who served as the seventh editor of Bachon ki Dunya, children's magazine in Urdu, from July 2019 until his resignation in May 2021. He is also manager of Khayyam Book Corner and founding editor of Khayyam Online, a monthly magazine on history and literature.

Life and career

1992–2002: Family and childhood

M. Fayez al-Maram was born on 11 February 1992 in Islamabad, Pakistan into a scholarly lower middle class family that traces its lineage to the Timurids. He is the oldest of the children born to Abu Abdullah and his wife Inam Begum. His parents are capable and educated people of their time. Most of the people in his family are fond of reading books and have high academic ability, they instilled these qualities in them and thus developed a love for reading and writing.

Fayez al-Maram's lineage traces back to the 18th Mughal emperor Shah Alam II on his father's side, and to the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah II on his mother's side.

Just in the age of 1 month and few days, his parents migrated in Lahore, Punjab. His mother is a school teacher, so he initially educated at home from the age of two.

2002–2019: Education

Educated in private schools at primary level, then attended Urdu medium government school, Government Najaf High School (located at Gulberg II, Lahore) till matriculation. Got ICS certificate from Government Degree College, Walton Road, Lahore, which was renamed as Government Khawaja Rafique Shaheed College after Khawaja Saad Rafique's father, Khawaja Rafiq Shaheed.

While studying in this college, in March 2014, to commemorate the Objectives Resolution, he went on an educational trip to the building of Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust and had an opportunity to attend historical and academic lectures there. The students were also shown the library and museum items. This further fueled his interest in history.

In 2016, he studied basic computer courses. In the next year, 2017, he did creative courses in designing, drawing, sketches, craft, etc. under the scholarship organized by the British Consulate from the STEP Institute of Art, Design, and Management (STEP IADM), Lahore. Then got admission in Punjab University in BSCS (software engineering, 4 yaer program) but dropped out after two years.
