The Journal of Paramedic Practice is a medical journal, which specialises in the field of Paramedic Practice and prehospital care.[1] It publishes peer-reviewed original research, review articles, art and history of medicine pieces, letters to the editor and personal reflections.[2][3][4][5]

The Journal of Paramedic Practice is the official partner journal of the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, the Association of Air Ambulances, and a media partner of the Independent Ambulance Association.[6]

Researchers and clinicians have stated that the Journal of Paramedic Practice; "bring[s] the professional community together while expanding the boundaries of professional practice",[7] is "peer-reviewed journal of high relevance to EMS"[8] and that "it is an excellent resource for paramedics to enable them to enhance their professional knowledge".[9]

Editorial Oversight

[edit]

The consultant editors are Mr Pete Gregory of the University of Wolverhampton[10], Prof Ian Peate OBE of the School of Health Studies in Gibraltar[11] and Ms Lynda Sibson, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust[12].

Abstracting / Indexing and Impact

[edit]

The journal is abstracted and indexed in:

It has an h5-Index of 7 (median of 8)[13] and is stocked by educational libraries around the world.[14]

Media Coverage

[edit]

In July 2020, research from the University of Portsmouth published in the Journal of Paramedic Practice was covered by the national media[15]. The paper was qualitative primary research into the factors for and against the prehospital administration of antibiotics for sepsis by paramedics[16].

Impact within the Paramedic Profession

[edit]

The Journal of Paramedic Practice is the chosen journal of at least 22 paramedics undertaking PhD studies when publishing their research[17][18]. The Journal is also a core journal searched during systematic reviews of the prehospital literature[8][19][20][21].

Members of the College of Paramedics have discounted access to the Journal of Paramedic Practice as an educational resource[22] and it is a recommended text for paramedic students and researchers in various countries, including Australia[23] and the United Kingdom.[24][25][26][27] Articles from the journal are often highlighted as key reading for paramedics by employers[28][29], and it is recommended and cited by JRCALC in their national clinical practice guidelines[30]. Access to this journal is included in the NHS OpenAthens scheme[31][32]. It is cited numerous times by the core paramedic texts in the United Kingdom.[33][34][35][36][37]

Additional Services

[edit]

Continuing Professional Development

[edit]

The Journal of Paramedic Practice publishes monthly CPD resources for prehospital clinicians using the CPD Launchpad digital platform.[38]

Mobile App

[edit]

The Journal of Paramedic Practice produces an application for use on mobile devices[39], which has received mixed reviews.[40]
