Advance HE is a UK body supporting institutions so that they meet strategic challenges as they relate to equality and diversity, learning and teaching, and leadership and governance.[1][2]

History

[edit]

On 15 December 2017 a joint board meeting of the Equality Challenge Unit (ECU), the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education (LFHE) was held in which the three agreed to merge.[1][2] The merger was the recommendation of the Bell Review of sector agencies, led by David Bell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading on behalf of Universities UK.[3]

  • Leadership Foundation for Higher Education: The meeting decided that Alison Johns, the former CEO of LFHE, would be the CEO-designate of the new agency.[1][4]
  • Equality Challenge Unit: It was agreed that David Ruebain, the former CEO of the ECU, would take on the new role as Interim Director of Equality Integration in the merged agency until 1 February 2018.[1][2]

It was also agreed at the meeting that Nigel Carrington would be the Chair.[1][2]
