Michael Hunter Gorman (born March 30, 1990 in Asheville, North Carolina) is an Irish-American, better known by his online identity of WyvernOne.

Early life

Gorman's father, Gary Randall Gorman, had died of pancreatic cancer at age 40, when Gorman was only 3 years old. According to Gorman himself, his father's death began a pattern of misfortune for his family that lasted intermittently through to 2008; he recalls alienation from many family friends and a progressively decreasing financial income among the reasons why he currently feels like he needs to "work his way back out of the gutter".

Education

In Asheville, Gorman attended Charles C. Bell Elementary School from August 1995 to May 2001, and A.C. Reynolds Middle School from August 2001 to May 2002. After the move to Williamsburg, Virginia he then attended Berkeley Middle School from September 2002 to June 2004, and then Lafayette High School from September 2004 to June 2008, finally graduating with the Class of 2008.

From kindergarten, Gorman had many seemingly strained relationships with his teachers, often citing his low grades as a lack of focus. However, he was able to maintain at least a minimum average in order to move up a grade. During his sixth-grade year at A.C. Reynolds, Gorman came under fire multiple times for such lack of focus, often punished with extra paperwork, detention, and at one point, 2 days of in-school suspension, all to make up for missing or incomplete assignments. Gorman cites this year as "one [he would] like to forget above all others" due to these acts against him. This would also later cement his perception of Asheville in general as "backwards" and "ignorant".

During the summer of 2002, Gorman's family was facing the prospect of him not moving on to the seventh grade, and instead being placed in a special education program. A call from a family friend residing in Williamsburg, Virginia, inviting them to stay a while, seemed akin to divine intervention to the Gorman family. In late September of that year, not only did they find a permanent home, but Gorman was introduced into Berkeley Middle School as a seventh-grader; the school administration cited his previous administration's actions as "ludicrous".

Gorman recalls not initially liking high school during his freshman year. During his junior and senior years, he was a member of Lafayette's Chamber Choir as one of the few bass vocalists. In early 2008, Gorman had qualified for the District Choir, but could not attend due to transportation issues.

Tragedy of Katie Coleman

On March 24 of 2008, it was revealed that fellow choir member Katie Lynn Coleman had committed suicide by hanging herself. The other members of the choir were quite devastated upon hearing the news as well, and Gorman considers that day to be "the darkest day I have yet experienced. Here was a beautiful young woman with an equally beautiful voice, who had dreams of success, only to have it all end at age 14." Gorman does not recall any specific reason why she did it, aside from learning of other girls repeatedly harassing her with scathing comments, and unverifiable rumors of bipolar disorder.

Coleman's mother and sister, respectively Cindy and Chrissy, currently run a MySpace Music profile dedicated to her memory, which features several songs performed by Katie herself.

Influences

Gorman currently intends to pursue a career in electronic music, and is also attempting to save money to do so. He cites musicians Richard D. James and Brian Transeau as the two primary influences toward such a profession, and he admittedly stated that "had I not listened to (Aphex Twin and BT) when I did, God knows where I'd be." This all seemed to stem from an event in 2004 which resulted from a somewhat fruitless search for the Haddaway song, "What Is Love".

Gorman does vividly recall his first exposures to these influential artists, down even to the minute; on the night of September 10, 2005, he recalls walking into his brother's room to look for a lost CD of his. As he rummaged through his brother's miscellaneous items, he happened upon a burned copy of the Aphex Twin studio album, Selected Ambient Works 85-92. Having already heard of Aphex Twin from the year before, hearing the songs "Father" from drukqs and "[cliffs]" from Selected Ambient Works Volume II, which Gorman described as "very interesting" songs, he decided to listen to the album. While looking at his bedside clock, which read "11:28 p.m." when he started playing the disc. The first track, "Xtal", reportedly "blew (Gorman) away with its sheer beauty".

Why "WyvernOne"?

In October of 2005, Gorman recalls playing Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, piloting the X-02 Wyvern aircraft. Three months later, in January of 2006, he decided to join the website FanFiction.Net under the pseudonym, WyvernOne, inspired by the X-02's name, and its denotation as a call sign.

Since then, Gorman had joined Gaia Online, Playlist.com, Xanga, and Photobucket all under the guise of "WyvernOne". He had also joined YouTube, but this time under "ElectrumZephyr", since the aforementioned name was apparently already chosen by another user.

Personal life

As of January 2010, Gorman is employed part-time at a local deli in Millville, New Jersey.

Gorman has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, commonly associated with high-functioning autism. This considerably limits his social capabilities, and in his words, "would explain damn near everything wrong with my life thus far," as he has been known to be very awkward as a child.
