Ilya Sheyman[edit]

Ilya Sheyman (born June 1, 1986) is a community organizer and candidate for Illinois's 10th congressional district for the United States House of Representatives elections, 2012.[1] He lives in Waukegan[2] and is a member of the Democratic Party. The district lies in the northeast corner of the state and comprises mostly northern suburbs of Chicago. The district is currently represented by Republican Robert Dold.

Ilya Sheyman was born in the former Soviet Union and immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of four as Jewish refugees.[3] Sheyman attended public schools in Skokie, Buffalo Grove and Lincolnshire. Ilya graduated from McGill University with a joint degree in Political Science and United States History.[4]

Ilya worked for then Senator Barack Obama in constituent services.[5] Ilya Sheyman worked as an organizer for A+ Illinois, a statewide advocacy organization that worked to increase funding of public schools.[6] Ilya worked as a Field Director for Democracy for America and as National Mobilization Director for Moveon.org.[7]

Robert James "Bob" Dold, Jr.[8] (born June 23, 1969) is the U.S. Representative for Illinois's 10th congressional district. He is a member of the Republican Party.[9] Prior to his election, Dold ran his family-owned business, Rose Pest Solutions.[10]

Dold was born in Evanston, Illinois and graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka where he was quarterback of the football team and captain of the wrestling and lacrosse teams. He earned a BA from Denison University where he served as President of the Campus Governance Association, a law degree from Indiana University where he was selected by his classmates to give the commencement address, and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.[11]

Dold was an intern in the administration of Vice President Dan Quayle. He also clerked for a New York State Judge and served as an investigative counsel for the Republican-led House Government Reform and Oversight Committee.[12]
