my story today

Listening to Siegfried from the 2023 Bayreuth Festival, third act, Andreas Schager as Siegfried waking up Brünnhilde, reminded me of this discussion. Was there anything in it demanding arbitration? - A few weeks later, three participants were admonished, - for what still remains a mystery to me? -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:25, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

Today Jahrhundertring, and I just listened to Götterdämmerung from the Bayreuth Festival (pictured), - the image (of a woman who can't believe what she has to see) features also on the article talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:57, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

Question

Hello. Sorry to bother you again. In regards to this archived post about an open request for IP block exemption that was declined, would you mind to tell me what the reason was for the decline when you first reviewed the request? I think that knowing the reason for the decline might be helpful in preparing a new request since the one you left open for someone to look at has either been overlooked or ignored, and the people over at global have since closed the global request that was dependent on me getting granted this local exemptions first. Thanks for your help. Huggums537 (talk) 10:14, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

Huggums537, technically the request is still open, because the queue, well, is a tad backlogged... Anyway, I declined your request because the user right is generally only given to those who cannot otherwise edit without the use of a VPN. It's not enough to prefer to edit through a VPN, you have to actively need it to edit. And in your case I was not convinced that was the case. Of course we also take privacy concerns seriously and, sometimes, someone may be allowed to edit anonymously only on privacy grounds, but the concerns need to be particularly serious. To be fair, your blocks were also a minor contributing factor: they were not particularly significant, but I took those into account. Most likely, I would have the declined the request anyway, even if you had had a clean block log, deeming the permission unneeded, but they reinforced my conclusion. —  Salvio giuliano 14:53, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – September 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (August 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
  • A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that [s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment.

Technical news

Arbitration

  • The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.

Miscellaneous

  • Tech tip: The "Browse history interactively" banner shown at the top of Special:Diff can be used to easily look through a history, assemble composite diffs, or find out what archive something wound up in.

Say, does the response come close to being adequate? Dubious. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 14:42, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

Deepfriedokra, first of all, thanks for the heads up. I'm as dubious as you are, that he *really* understands the problem that led to his block in the first place. Or, at the very least, he doesn't seem capable of articulating it. I have read the entire discussion (and the two previous declined requests) and, well, his answers are very superficial, it's nothing but the generic "I promise I'll do better" type of unblock request. For my money, he needs to do better... —  Salvio giuliano 16:22, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. Yes and that's reminiscent of all of his appeals. And we've not even touched on the maturity/cir aspects. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:09, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

Can I get help to create the wiki page for Benjamin Bocio?

Hi Salvio, I am interested in working on the Wiki page Benjamin Bocio, but I checked, and it is protected. Jayrodriz (talk) 16:10, 16 October 2023 (UTC)

Yes, I protected the page against recreation, because it was repeatedly submitted, after being deleted pursuant to a community discussion and I am not going to unprotect the page. Incidentally, is this your first account or have you edited Wikipedia before? Salvio giuliano 12:06, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:33, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
