Usurpation
I disagree with Nichalp on this subject and would myself have performed the request, but I cannot contravene his decision in good faith. It is his prerogative as much as mine as a bureaucrat to make final decisions in these matters. — Dan | talk 23:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- In the first place, this process would only suffer from the restrictive nature of a formal policy; in the second, I fancy I am in the minority with regard to usurpation of accounts with edits, and I fear that the opening of such a discussion to the community would not turn out to your liking. Unfortunately I think your only option is to attempt to convince Nichalp otherwise, since I do not believe any bureaucrat would carry out the usurpation 'over his head'. — Dan | talk 15:15, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Our current policy does not permit the usurpations of accounts that have edited. Personally I don't see why such accounts should not be usurped, but before this is done, I feel there should be a global discussion on this to brainstorm and trash out all possible issues that may crop up (legal, technical etc). I won't say your request is permanently denied, but if there is community consensus on usurpations of such a nature in the future, I would go ahead with it. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:45, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't get to your request immediately; I see somebody has done it already. Best of luck — Dan | talk 15:16, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
WikiProject Alabama
I see you signed up for the Alabama project. I'd like to go ahead and move it from proposal to project this week. Do you have any thoughts or comments? JBEvans 11:46, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Well, it's done. The WikiProject Alabama is begun. I copied the material ffrom the temp page and so we start recruiting. Thanks for your help. I look forward to a good project. JBEvans 15:44, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- I've uploaded a few images of Beard-Eaves and listed them on my images page. The coliseum was locked (I'm guessing due to Easter) but I'll try to get inside sometime in the next few weeks. - auburnpilot talk 22:48, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
WikProject Template Help Request
A new WikiProject {{WikiProject Alabama}} was recently started. I'm trying to modify the banner to include assessment info. I've taken the {{WikiProject California}} as a baseline and modified it. I need help (1) removing the importance ratings (without breaking the template) and (2) enabling bot-assisted assessment. My working sandbox is ( T1) - Any help would be apreciated. Вasil | talk 21:19, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Go to WP:TEMPLATE or Help:Template for help. Real96 22:23, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- I'd be happy to help, but not until tomorrow. User:Nmajdan would be a good source to help with the template as well. As far as bot-assisted assessment, you can get a bot to calculate how many pages you have at each assessment, but a bot that would go and actually assess an article, I don't think could happen. It's easier to just go thought the unassessed category (more on this in a second) and assess the article manually. A bot can't tell the difference between start and B and GA and A and FA. It might be able to do stub, but that wouldn't be helpful in the long run. To get setup with the bot calculations, you just create the categories for each assessment level and link them to eachother in the proper manner and then into the proper category. See Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team. MECU≈talk 00:12, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
Actually I've been to the pages in question, but the template I'm asking for help on is quite complicated. I was hoping for a bit more assistance than a link to the documentation. No worries! I'll ask someone else. Вasil | talk 23:15, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Also, ask User:Dgies. Real96 03:26, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
Basil, I removed the extra }} in the template. Might I also suggest removing the following segment of code from the end of the template: <includeonly>[[Category:WikiProject Alabama articles|{{PAGENAME}}]]? This is a personal preference of mine but what this is doing is adding all articles tagged with this template to Category:WikiProject Alabama articles in addition to adding it to the appropriate subcategory under Category:Alabama articles by quality (such as Category:B-Class Alabama articles which I see you haven't created yet). Once you start having a lot of articles tagged, this category will quickly fill up making it difficult to sort through. I prefer to just have the articles in the appropriate class-category, but thats me. Anyway, I hope I helped. If there is anything else, please let me know.↔NMajdan•talk 16:55, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- Your welcome and thanks a lot!↔NMajdan•talk 17:33, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- Just an FYI, looks like your class categories aren't quite setup correctly. Sure, what you have works, but its just a little off. No big deal. I've altered the B-Class category above. You can see what I did and either make the change to the other cats or revert my change. Its up to you.↔NMajdan•talk 18:02, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- All done. See User talk:Вasil/Tools/T1 for a page showing all the examples the template can handle. If you're not going to use the past- cases, since there isn't a Portal:Alabama it seems, then I can remove those as well. I also fixed the setup for the bot to run through and calculate. You had it mostly setup but didn't link them into Category:Alabama articles by quality and I created the unassessed category as well. So, tomorrow you should have a table of information. You should either move the example page to the template talk page or just delete that page after you've looked at it. I think that's everything. Good luck! MECU≈talk 18:03, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi Basil! Looks like you've got alot going on with the templates. Are they ready for use? Do we just include the proper one on the talk page? I'm not too familiar with it. JBEvans 18:20, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
I tried them a couple of times on a few articles and they look good. I guess we need to get some articles in review for GA status. I am hoping to get approved for AWB this week and I think there are somie things I can contribute with it.
BTW, I fixed my signature - I think - I had forgotten to tune it up when the change went through. When I went to your page (Basil) and clicked on the top link to leave a message, it took me to the pepto page you used to use. Anyway no problem. JBEvans 19:08, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
Basil, I wonder if you could take a look at the article assessment box on the Alabama page. The unassessed category does not seem to be incrementing when the template is added to the talk pages. I've added about 300 today and its stuck although the articles by quality page seems to be correct. IOW, the articles are being placed in the unassessed category, just not showing up in the count. Thanks. JBEvans 20:23, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, I didn't know it was bot operated. That's great. And thanks for the Vandalism thing. That's twice he's hit me since I reverted a page of his. JBEvans 21:26, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Re: Add cats for NBA coaches
Actually I screwed up -- the category is completely redundant (initially, I thought it wasn't). I'll be undoing most of my changes anyhow. Myasuda 19:18, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- 1. Your latest what? I responded to your talk page comment and I can't see any new links or sources since I last looked (5 seconds ago)
- 2. I'm not tired of anything except my 6 year old not listening to me and I certainly don't mind the issue being discussed again. I mean we have done this lots of times already but I'm sure eventually a reliable source will emerge and the information can go on the article so we need to keep reviewing the subject. That's why I rejected the idea of a banner.
- 3. I tend to find that its much easier to solve problems and reach agreement if editors avoid personalising the discussion. --Spartaz Humbug! 17:20, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- I have responded on the talk page. Definate progress... I agree that the Canada.com source may do. I have asked for further opinions. The other sources don't do it for me. I hope this helps --Spartaz Humbug! 19:55, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Question About Alabama Assessment
Hi Basil, hope you're having a good weekend. I'm curious about the assessment section at the Alabama project. Did I understand that it updates automatically? Should we be adding the GA's to the proper section under assessments? I don't want to mess it up. JodyB 16:06, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Ok that's fine. I was just curious. There are nine articles in the GA category which I have now manually listed on the main page. The counter shows 3. I'm not real sure where the original format came from User:Badbilltucker created this layout as part of the proposal. I'll keep looking around and let you know what I find. Thanks! JodyB 20:31, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Comments
Would you mind commenting here? They're thinking about re-opening that poll about the NFL infoboxes. Quadzilla99 22:15, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
Question about templates
Where did you learn about writing templates? I'd like to learn more but I really don't know where to start. In looking at the Alabama template I see you have many possible parameters to use. I'm sure not going to mess with it but I'd like to learn more. I copied it and printed out the code to study but I was wondering if there is a best place to start? I know there are many pages about templates but where would you suggest I begin? JodyB 13:48, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- I'm making some progress-- I think. I'm using the Alabama template in my sandbox and messing with it. When I can't figure it out I try and find some documentation. If I can't find that I'll holler. It's tough keeping all the brackets sorted out. In fact, it seems easier to work on things in a word processor and then copy and paste back in. That way you can lay the lines out in some better order. I'm going to do something with the template and message you to look at it when I am done. I'd like to add a needsinfobox parameter and maybe an additional image request. I'm using Kingbotk's plugin for AWB and it needs reqphoto in order to properly place the parameter. He offered to adjust the code but I thought it would fun to try and figure out the coding myself. Don't worry though, I will not let it escape from my sandbox.JodyB 01:47, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comment about the {{AlProInv}} template. It's actually been around since the beginning but it was first attempt at doing something constructive. A new member template built around the {{Welcome}} message is a good idea. I'll play with that. JodyB 11:21, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Awesome Poster!
That's a great stars fell on Alabama poster! Wow! Will it incorporate well into the other templates? !!!! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by JodyB (talk • contribs) 17:54, 29 April 2007 (UTC).
Take a look
When you get a minute, take a look at this. I have added a parameter "reqphoto" which should mimic the "Imageneeded" parameter. All I did was cut and paste the "Imageneeded" block of code and then replaced "Imageneeded" with "reqphoto." However, when I set reqphoto=yes nothing happens. Can you see what I've done incorrectly? The reason for this is because the plugin I use to go through the unassessed articles only loads reqphoto. He offered to write some code for it but I thought I'd see if I could learn something first. Anyway, it's in my Sandbox so see what you think. Thanks! JodyB 14:02, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- Duh...Thanks for reminding me. I knew that...at least I think I knew that. So would it be safe to move it over to the Template page and begin using it? Should I give it a different name? JodyB 15:15, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- Here's what I did. I copied it over and it works fine. I also fixed it so that the text displays either Imageneeded or reqphoto in the removal instructions. Seems to work fine though. Thanks! JodyB 15:41, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
