Sources for Queen of Sheba

I can’t see where the Guardian article mentions Yemeni influence. I don’t think Tomppert is a reliable source here, but what does he actually say? Doug Weller talk 20:32, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Doug Weller. the Guardian article talks about Yemen and the relationship of the Queen of Sheba to Sheba. It also talks about "Marib, where one of her temples, Mahram Bilqis, has been unearthed." and "The Yemeni think of these whirlwinds as djinns or genies, and believe that Sheba was born from one of them. Bilqis means a being half-human and half-spirit". The book touched on the fact that the Queen of Sheba was the first democracy among the ancient civilizations, and that by seeking advice she was the reason for the prosperity of Yemen in the past.

Another article posted in the Harvard Divinity Bulletin stated: Folktales and apocryphal accounts from the Jewish rabbinic tradition, the Coptic Christian tradition in the Ethiopian book Glory of Kings (Kebra Nagast), and the Arab Yemeni tradition have elaborated on the scriptural tales to give Sheba a jinni mother, goat or donkey hooves, and hairy legs. In the Bible, hair is associated with physical and intellectual strength, as in the story of Samson: “If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I would become as weak as any other man” (Judges 16:17). But male tellers of traditional tales have associated women’s hairy legs with the devil or with lesbianism to limit women’s access to political power.

Ok I guess but it just occurred to me (and sorry to be so slow in replying) that as the lead is meant to summarise the article itself and generally shouldn't have information in the lead not in the article except for a few things, that someone might revert because of that.
