The collapse of Halfpenny Bridge in Widcombe was due to the multitude of people visiting the Bath and West show which was in fields above Beechen Cliff, NOT Sydney Gardens. This makes much more sense geographically, as if people were alighting from the train at Bath Spa they would not have needed to use the bridge if going to Sydney gardens (NE).
