"Respectively"
[edit]Please read the definition of "respectively". You have used it incorrectly in numerous articles, creating ungrammatical sentences. Respectively: "Separately or individually and in the order already mentioned (used when enumerating two or more items or facts that refer back to a previous statement)". So it's correct to say that "spaghetti consists of a pasta, a sauce, and a meat. These are spaghetti noodles, tomato sauce, and meatballs, respectively". Notice that the previous sentence has items in a specific order, which is what makes "respectively" needed and appropriate. It is incorrect (and grossly ungrammatical) to say "Spaghetti consists of spaghetti, tomato sauce, and meatballs, respectively" as you did. Respective to what??? There is no previous order for "respectively" to refer to. Every instance of a series of items does not (and should not) use the word "respectively". If you can't understand this, simply stop using the word on Wikipedia because others have to clean up your mess. Thank you. Sundayclose (talk) 20:52, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
Please stop your disruptive editing. I have removed the word "respectively" from three more articles. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:43, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
