May 2010[edit]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding Use of user account to post company products. The thread is User:Almico. The discussion is about the topic SpeedFan. Thank you. -- A p3rson  19:18, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block. Toddst1 (talk) 19:58, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I'm sorry to read about this block. I never wanted to spam and/or use Wikipedia for anything else but to give its users some reliable info. I didn't create SpeedFan's page on Wikipedia. Somebody else did that. I simply found the page and tried, as well as I could, to add some real and useful info. I can't remember of having added any link (unless I added the one to the home page, but I don't think so). I remember to have refined some other info on the S.M.A.R.T. page that somebody else added long before I edited it. Again, I didn't spam anything. I simply applied some minor edits to give the end users a correct information. I can't remember if I edited any other page, but I know for sure that I would only edit things I know very well and that would be valuable to Wikipedia users. Finally, my username: ALMICO. Its origin is from my name: ALfredo MIlani COmparetti. I've been using it since 1980 based on a suggestion made by my father. In summary: I'm sorry if I violated your rules. I never meant to do that. In practice, I'm sure I didn't spam anything, nor advertised anything. I would be glad to see my account restored. If you don't want to or are unable to, feel free to permanently disable it, but, please, do not allow anybody else to use it. If I can't sign my edits with my beloved ALMICO it wouldn't make sense to edit anything. Thank you for reading.

Decline reason:

Incorrect template - see notes below  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:49, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

It does not matter how you have constructed your name - the simple fact is that you wrote SpeedFan, and Almico is the name you have used for your website. Thus it is correct that the name (also) represents the company. As for your edits to date (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Almico), they have all been geared towards SpeedFan and related. You should read conflict of interest to understand that such editing is generally frowned upon, to say the least, as it's almost impossible to stay neutral. I don't think anyone will unblock you until you see the problem. If you were unblocked what articles would you be looking to edit in the future? Also you must use the correct unblock template as given in the blocking message - the standard unblock template is not suitable.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:45, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Allowing username change to a.milani (talk · contribs). Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking.

Request handled by: Daniel Case (talk)

Unblocking administrator: Please check for active autoblocks on this user after accepting the unblock request.

Before an unblock to allow a rename can be considered, could you please state what article(s) you intend to edit? -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 15:36, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Looks to me like they have done that already. Beeblebrox (talk) 16:28, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
