May 2023[edit]

Hello, I'm JML1148. I noticed that in this edit to Vietnam national under-23 football team, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. JML1148 (Talk | Contribs) 07:37, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted edit and request for clarification[edit]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to United States Naval Forces Europe and Africa and Bernard Montgomery, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you.

Your edits[edit]

Hi, I see that you are a new user and have been making a lot of minor or superficial edits, particularly to infoboxes. This is called WP:GNOMEING. There is nothing controversial about this provided the edits are consistent with WP:P&G and there is no WP:EDITWARRING if edits are reverted. It has been identified that some of your edits are not consistent with WP:P&G and you have been reinstating these when these have been challenged (ie reverted) rather than engaging in discussion per WP:BRD.

Please read WP:FLAGINFOBOX and other guidance on that page. Generally, flags an other icons (eg rank insignia) should not be used in an infobox unless there is a specific template parameter for such an icon. The only significant exception is for military conflicts where there are two or more belligerents on at least one side and the icon acts as a key or symbolic shorthand to identify allegiances in respect to other parameters (eg commanders). However, if there are only two belligerents, there is no purpose served by flags or similar.

I see you have been filling in many parameters in infobox templates, particularly for command positions in units. Just because a parameter exists, doesn't mean it should be filled. WP:INFOBOXPURPOSE tells us that less information in an infobox is usually better. Command information provided should be proportional to the level of the command. Except at the very highest levels, the commander (and perhaps their second) suffices.

Reference has been made to WP:OVERLINKING. There are "rules" about limiting links to other wiki articles. These wiki-links use [[two pairs of square brackets]]. What I have seen are hyperlinks to off-wiki web pages that use a [single pair of square brackets]. On article pages, these should not be used as a substitute for a wiki-link. They would only be used as part of a properly formed WP:REFERENCE or when an infobox parameter calls for the web page of the article subject.

We almost never use WP:ALLCAPS in articles except for initialisms. Even if a reference we are citing uses allcaps, we convert this to sentence case. However, I see you have been adding names to infoboxes in allcaps.

I assume that your edits have been well intended. You may have seen other articles as examples that you are emulating but these are not good examples to follow. I hope that my explanation makes this clear but if you have further questions, please ping me (use {{U|Cinderella157}}). In the light of the guidelines I have indicated, can I suggest you review and correct your contributions accordingly. You can see your contributions here. Regards, Cinderella157 (talk) 12:45, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In your more recent edits (eg here and here) you are adding additional urls to the website parameter in templates (specifically, a link to a leadership page). This parameter is only intended for the "home page" of the subject of the article. Template:Infobox military unit states: The official website of the formation, if any. Given my previous comment in relation to command, adding this information contrary to the template documentation could be seen as WP:POINTY behaviour. I suggest you self-revert/amend these edits and other problematic edits previously identified. Cinderella157 (talk) 11:06, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I will identify with these prior comments and apologise for any prior hastiness with the earlier ANI report. That being said, I thank you for no longer making excessive addition to userboxes, and wish you well. I also thank Cinderella157 for helping me understand the policies relating to the report and will strive to do better in future. SuperWIKI (talk) 02:25, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You are continuing to make edits of the type I identified in my previous post immediately above and my earlier post in respect to over-populating with commanders (eg your edit here). Continuing to make such edits may be considered disruptive and give reasonable grounds for reopening a case at WP:ANI. Cinderella157 (talk) 00:06, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is no justifiable reason for removing the website link from the SA Army article. It's a really useful WP:REFERENCE. Can you please explain why you tried to do this? Buckshot06 (talk) 03:07, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Battle of San Jacinto, et al[edit]

Given that the decorative flag you have added was not adopted until after the campaign, can you please explain your reverts? Please do not use the "undo" function without some sort of edit summary. Sam Kuru (talk) 10:49, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Duration of Civil War battles[edit]

Hi, I see that you've added the age template to the infobox of many Civil War battle articles. I'm not sure if this is a great idea because, for example, the Battle of Gettysburg is well known as a 3-day battle, but the template gives '2 days' which is a little confusing. Even aside from this, I'm not sure if it's that helpful for battles which typically only lasted a few days and the reader can easily calculate the duration. For campaigns it might make more sense. Do you mind if I revert it from the battle articles? CWenger (^@) 23:45, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
